Not "seeing" results

Recommended Posts

I'm a little over a month out and doing great, feeling good, regaining my energy. I weighed myself this morning and I have lost a total of 35 pounds! However when I look on the mirror I just can not see it. I'm glad I didn't have the surgery for purely aesthetic reasons or I would be so frustrated. My clothes are literally falling off of me, I can see they are big but I can't get to make my brain see any weight loss. Any one else experience this?

I've lost over 200 pounds total but I still sometimes have days where I feel exactly as big as I did two years ago. The best thing you can do for yourself is to take pictures and measure your waist, hips, bust, thighs, etc. I take a picture every month on the 17th (that's the day I had my surgery last august) and when I look at them all side by side there's no denying a huge change! I track my measurements on myfitnesspal, which is a great site for a lot of reasons, but I really love how they give you a graph to show you just how much progress you've made. Hope this helps! You're doing great, keep it up. :)

That is a very common condition after surgery. It is really important to take a good before photograph to benchmark visually your weight loss. Otherwise, it can be hard to see. Some people carry their before photo with them on their cell phones, just to show others how much they lost. Here is my before and after at the 6 month mark.

None on my end either. Everyone says they see it but I think they are just being nice new use they know I had surgery and that's what they "should" say.

I highly endorse @@Cervidae's advice. I am now down almost 85 pounds (Almost 7 months post op) and although the clothes are looser, the body is the same shape. I am still VERY front heavy. I have found that looking at the photos my sis in law has been taking for me whenever we see each other, really shows me how much I have changed. One of the few places I could SEE the difference was in my face and neck. It seemed like I lost all of the first 50 lbs. from my face.

The other place I have noticed my weightloss particularly is in my hands. I don't have dimples where my knuckles are any more. I used to have baby hands where the fat was higher between my fingers than my knuckles, creating dimples when I had my hand flat. Now I have knuckles! Of course, I have lost 2 ring sizes so far from my fingers as well.

I measure monthly as well. Even the month that I only lost 5 pounds, I lost nearly 5 inches. It all shows up somewhere!

I've had the same issue, but what made me realize it was one day when my husband told me to buy a pair of pants for myself because I wore leggings since after surgery as they are very forgiveable in regards to weight loss. I grabbed a size 18, he told me to try a size 16. A 14 is what fit me. That's when it clicked for me. I cry sometimes cause I don't feel like I've changed my size but that's normal. It's okay to feel this way, just don't let it take over your thoughts.

Thanks everyone! I'm kicking myself for not taking before pictures. I'm sure my brain will catch up soon enough????

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
