Swallowing tablets and capsules

Hey all. I was sleeved 2 weeks ago and wonder when can i swallow regular tablets or capsules without crushing? Any help?

I was able to swallow capsule and tablets within a week of surgery and some of my pills are not small, but TBH I still can't quite get the Calcium pill that thing was made for horses

talk to your team - as plans vary, but I was given regular pills in my hospital room and have never had a problem with them.

I don't know. I never had to crush anything and took my meds normally starting the day after surgery. I would suggest you give your surgeon's office a call and ask.

My surgeon's instructions were to swallow any pills or capsules that would fit through a standard size wedding ring starting the day of surgery. I did swallow some pills just a couple hours after surgery and had no problems.

For pills bigger than that, we had to visit the pharmacist and make a specific plan as to whether to get a liquid replacement, alternate drug, or cut or crush the drug. Not every drug can be crushed or cut -- if you crush or cut the wrong drug you can actually endanger your life! So it was important that we go over each drug with a licensed pharmacist and come up with a plan for it. So, I would definitely say a call to your surgeon is in order to see what his/her orders are for you. Good luck!

I couldn't swallow my Vitamins afterwards without vomiting every time. After 2 weeks and frustration, I called my team. They approved me doing liquid forms and gummies. Since I have used those 2 options where I can, I've been able to get all my meds in. Check with your bariatric tear first as some don't allow gummies. I also found 3 Viactiv chews a day gets me to my Calcium goal.....and calcium pills can be HUGE! Good luck!

For me, the multi-Vitamins made me sick, almost to the point of throwing up. I found PatchMD, and I wear two Multivitamin Patches each day. No more barfy feeling! Had my bloodwork done for my 6 month follow-up at 5 months, actually, but everything came back with good number levels. No issues.
