Week 1 post op but can stomach solids...

Hi All,

Couldn't find another thread so will just ask...

I'm exactly 1 week post op and since yesterday (day 6) I've started trying a few 'solid foods' in the UK we're told after a sleeve to have liquids for 3 weeks, then puree for 3 then move to more solid food. But I've always been a quick healer, and for some reason I just knew in my head I felt ok to try something, I've had a thin slice of cheese, a strawberry, a mousse dessert (yogurt) and a small piece of soft potato. All of these I chewed until they basically didn't exist in my mouth before swallowing, but I've experienced no nausea, sickness or cramping.

I understand I couldn't eat a proper meal as I could over stretch whilst still healing, and I am literally nibbling tiny mouthfuls and chewing until I can't even notice the food in my mouth anymore but is this normal? It's becoming really hard to stomach just Soup and milk etc when I feel ready to eat more solid food. I completely understand the risk of rushing the process and I will allow myself time to heal fully but would like to know id this has happened to anyone else?

I don't think it's me trying to do the baiting here by the look of the comments...

There is no need to be like that... she has taken the time out her life to respond to you, yes you might not like what she said, but there is no need to become nasty... we are all this together to support and inform each other.

It is a public forum with diverse views... name calling and directing insults aren't necessary.

We all have read replies we don't like... its better for your own mental health to move past it... otherwise you will stress yourself out..

I think it is nice that people take the time to respond, they don't have to offer support.. because deep down experience equals wisdom and ad newbies we need to appreciate it... even if we don't accept it

Oh darling it takes waaaaaaaay more than some silly back and forths to stress me out. I work in the entertainment industry that's stress on a next level ;)

My eye roll was due to the fact the conversation was moved back to topic TWICE and yet the little digs from LadyLisptick still had to be made. AGAIN highlighting my original points. And they continue....*SEE ABOVE*

I've emailed Admin to see how to remove my profile as I don't like to be present in forums or any platforms where people are continually goaded when just trying to move past that and continue positively. I think there are a few people on this site with waaaaaay too much time on their hands. But i guess that's how you become 'Host' right?

Well I usually don't jump in these things unless it's something that I want to know or understand, however, I do understand your completely honest and valid post. .. this whole site is a very sensitive subject to ALL of us, and should handled w a little more compassion and understanding.... frfr this thread should have been over after you admitted your mistake and said you'd never try that again?... (I saw it, so everyone else should have too)... so, be encouraged you'll do great, follow the Dr's orders and kick butt! & you can really ignore alot of negativity on here... I mean I get it, if you can come and share your thoughts, feelings and experiences w out feeling worse than u did when u share, then geez! Keep on going...

I can totally agree w everyone's responses but my two weeks have been hell mentally and I too started purée too soon

I decided to eat something this afternoon that has made me extremely sick, I threw up for the first time and beef like I have a baby moving around in my stomach .. Omg why did I have to try it, it's def liquids for me for a few days

..., feeling horrible for going against medical advise

Oh and not to mention I am a nurse so I just thought I knew better but obviously I wasn't ready. My stomach is making noises I've never heard before

Look don't try it just be safe

Its up to you if you aren't comfortable.. but i have found that 98% of people are supportive.. taking negative comments to heart is not beneficial for you.

I feel Its important to have support of people who understand what you are going through and sometimes some "tough love" is needed to get you out of your own head.

Wishing you all the best in your journey regardless of whether you decide to stay or not

This is exactly why people are being "negative" ...its from experience... we have either been there ourselves or have seen it happen to someone else .. if we see something that is wrong or potentially dangerous should we not warn the person?

I personally will not be an enabler and tap you on the shoulder and encourage you if you are doing something harmful to yourself, that would not sit right with me.

Yes, some people need to choose their words more carefully, but i think most of the time it does come from a good place.

Then again, sometimes you can be warned a million times about something but won't stick until you learn your lesson... eg someone says dont touch the wet paint.. but you touch it anyway lol...

"You can lead a horse to Water, but you can't make it drink" the old saying goes.

This forum is all about help, these people have experienced the surgery and are providing their knowledge which you asked for, no one is treating you like an idiot as you bluntly and rudely put it, if that's how you react to proper advise I'd hate to see you react to actual snarky criticism; this isn't Tumblr either where everyone is holding each others hand on every single misstep and never criticize, when the people here sound "snarky" to you they're being direct as what you were doing was foolish so out of concern they're being stern in their responses, there's no way to sugarcoat these types of things.

It's not rude to state something that I feel, it was a valid point that not just on my posting but other people's that there are people here that are berating with their comments which is unnecessary. Whilst it may be foolish to try food too early, I find it hypocritical coming from a forum of people that need dramatic surgery because of their eating habits to berate someone BECAUSE of their eating habits. My mental struggle with food isn't going to go away overnight, and if I we all had stronger will powers we wouldn't need surgery anyway.

I felt that people's comments were completely acceptable AND ONCE AGAIN by comment 3 I had stated how silly I was to try a food earlier than I should have. As @@scampbell33 put it she saw what I wrote as did everyone else and that really should have quite easily been end of the topic and the issue was not WHAT they write but HOW they write it.

There are many people in this platform, many different personalities and perspectives all which are valid however there are also a lot of people on here that overpower other people just because they had surgery years ago rather than months or even days. That doesn't mean it's ok to not be empathetic or sensitive to people's struggles.

Regarding your "You can lead a horse to Water..." comment it isn't really relevant here. I am nearly 3 weeks post op. I didn't have my brain removed I had my stomach removed. I am still learning how to do this thing. That doesn't come overnight for everyone. So yeah I've been lead to water but it'll take me as long as it takes me to drink.

I'm confused ... The title stated one week post op and now you saying " I am nearly 3 weeks post op... Which one is it... Because people do freak out when reading someone trying food at just a week out. We all know the struggles you are facing and understand just how hard this can be . But at a week out some vet are going to give you a quick wake up call only because nobody wants you to hurt yourself.

The post is 2 weeks old now. I ate some cheese and a strawberry at 1 week post op. I have since read quite a few threads and had some comments on here where people are eating soft foods at 1 week post op anyway and we have since had the discussion about how and why (in our opinions) people are given different eating regimes.

Gasp. My heart. It is now broken.
