Had surgery on Tuesday and have 2 questions

Recommended Posts

Does every body really reach their Water limit this early out? I started drinking as soon as I woke up this morning and I have only been able to drink: I Premier Protein shake and two bottles of water and I also had and 8 oz cup of chicken Protein broth. Does any one else gurgle when they drink?

Does every body really reach there Water limit this early out? Not that I am aware of; you are still swollen from surgery so your capacity is diminished. You are doing better than I was two days after surgery, just do the best you can and work your way up to your liquid goal. I didn't gurgle so I am no help there, sorry.

I am three days post op and I'm not getting anywhere near any goals......I've mixed up two Protein Drinks and could only take a few sips.....water, I'm drinking as much as I can but still not near enough....I've emailed my plan's nurse and she told me not to worry about any goals and to just focus on drinking as much Fluid as I can and to keep an eye on the color of my urine....she said to not even worry about Protein until I'm able to drink more Water.< /p>

Honestly? Nope. I don't know of anyone who met the Water and Protein goals immediately. Those are a guideline; "try your best to reach these, and keep trying as swelling goes down, but don't expect to get anywhere near these levels at first" is probably what they should say, but ehhhh, doctors don't say things like that. Lol. Make water your first priority (dehydration in those first few months is horrible, don't want that) and just get in what you can. It will get easier. Everyone always gets so scared about not getting their water and protein goals immediately, but just rest and drink what you're able to drink.

I was able to reach my protein target pretty soon after surgery. It took a while longer for me to be able to teach my Fluid target. Fortunately, I was able to count all my fluids (Protein shakes, ice, Popsicles, etc.).

Just keep sipping. It does get easier.

I had my surgery on Tuesday May 17 as well. I have not been able to meet goals yet. I asked my Doc about the gurgling sound because I was hearing/feeling it too. He said it was perfectly normal, explaining that the esophagus was larger than the opening to the stomach and worked similar to a funnel. Made sense the way he explained it. He said it will stop. So thankful for this forum for all the advice, otherwise I would be having constant meltdowns!

My NUT had a chart with a clock face and it worked out like this.

Top of the hour 1-2oz of protien, Isopure, shake, whatever.

Then every qtr hour(3,6,9) 1-2oz Fluid. so every 15 minutes sipping down 1-2oz.

The key point is 1 to 2oz. We were told to not force it but we did have to constantly sip on fluids. I used little bathroom cups and set my watch timer to keep me reminded. Remember, Isopure and shakes count toward both Protein and Fluid. However, I was told to work on it as best I could and to just keep sipping. I eventually reached both goals on a regular basis.

Sip, sip, sip.... you will get there.

I had my surgery on Tuesday as well. Feeling pain/gurgling/ pressure in the middle of my chest. Does that mean I'm full??

Mine said to never mix eating and drinking. That Protein Shake is your meal.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
