Had my surgery this week! [emoji51]

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just had my roux en y surgery on Wednesday of this week..was discharged from hospital on Friday.

All went great and my diabetes had completely responded so far!

Have stopped the 2gram metformin, pioglitazone 45mg, and have stopped have the 180 units of novorapid I was taking daily!

Am now just on 15 units of Levemir on a morning and so far so good..my BM's are around 4-7.

Have felt really weepy and exhausted and wondered if others had this experience.

Am not feeling hungry at all but am trying to get my food in, so far am managing the 2 litres of Fluid no problem.

I wondered if people had any good suggestions of food to be having on the puréed part of the diet. Am really missing crunching food already but know that's to be expected, I also know that this part is one of the toughest of the journey.

I want to say that I am completely grateful for the surgery and the changes it has made already!

I am 41 years old, have already lost the feelings in my feet, got a haemorrhage in my right eye, and had autonomic neuropathy due to uncontrolled diabetes due to severe insulin resistance..if these early results are anything to go by I am amazed at how the surgery has worked , I may not be able to reverse the damage but this surgery ha given me hope of it not getting worse and me starting to love a healthy life.

I wish anyone going through the same or about to go through it all the luck in the world.

Any advice and support will be gratefully received xx

So happy to hear that your health is improving! That's what it's all about. :)

As for pureed food suggestions, I'll just tell you a few of my favorites from that stage:

- refried Beans with a little sour cream and sometimes a little cheese, all pureed together.

- pureed turkey or chicken chili from Trader Joe's.

- canned white meat chicken, cheese, and a little milk or cream of chicken Soup. Makes a really creamy, delicious puree.

- for something on the sweet side, plain greek yogurt or cottage cheese (my favorite) pureed with canned pumpkin and some cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and perhaps a little stevia. so yummy!

Keep up the great work! It definitely gets easier, and your health will just keep getting better and better. ^_^

Also, the weepy/exhausted feeling is unfortunately completely normal. Our hormones become all out of whack and our bodies have gone through an enormous trauma. It took me a good 6 months to feel like myself again, and now at almost 9 months out I can say I feel really wonderful!

As for food/liquid, it's good that you're getting in your liquids but getting enough Protein and all your Vitamins in is absolutely essential at this stage! If you need to, maybe up your Protein shake intake. Good luck! :)

Congrats to you all on your journeys! I had my vsg on Monday, May 9th. Doing really well. No hunger, having a rough time with getting enough Protein and Water everyday. Taking it one day at a time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
