Should we check out different hospitals/programs before deciding?

Recommended Posts

I have the great fortune to live in the triangle area of North Carolina, and am very close to both UNC and Duke. Attended an info session for one and liked everything, seemed pretty straightforward, but I wonder if I should also check out the other one as well? Does it really matter which I choose?

Wondering if you all checked out different programs before choosing, or if you found that there were significant meaningful differences that mattered to you in the end?

Thanks for your advice.

@@gina171 - wouldn't hurt would it?

I mean, you test drive a car before you buy it.

If you really liked the first program then it will reaffirm your decision. As long as your insurance accepts both - I would check them both out.

My insurance required a Bariatric Center of Excellence. That would help narrow your search. My surgery was at a university teaching hospital where my surgeon developed the bariatric program and teaches bariatric and robotic surgery. It sounds like both of your options are university hospitals. That's a good start.

I didn't bother - we have 3 well known Programs in our small State and I went with the one that's part of the hospital I prefer - they're a Center of Excellence also and have an excellent reputation.

Thanks for the input! I will check out the other university hospital, and make my choice!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
