How long will a plateau/stall last?

For the past almost 3 weeks I've been plus 1-3 lbs minus 1-3 lbs plus 1-3lbs ect.... What is my body doing with all this plus and minus plus and minus.

I do admit I see a difference when I look in the mirror and I do feel healthier, but I want to see changes on the scale too. I have only lost 17 lbs since surgery 4/13 I am 3 days away from being 4 weeks post up. Will My body start to loose again soon.

I don't know how long your stall will last.

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. Stalls and fluctuations are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. We all experience stalls and almost everyone experiences a stall about three weeks post-op. So, you are right on schedule.

Just follow your program, focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, and stay off the scale.

Embrace the Stall!

Up to 21 days is a normal stall. But after your body has recalculated, balanced and re-set, you'll be back on your way.

I agree with Surfer Girl, you have to embrace them. As frustrating as they are, you can't go the distance without encountering them-no one can.

Think of it as going on a long hike up a mountain, you'd have to make some stops to take a break and recoup. Losing weight is no different. Your body is stressed and trying to catch up to all the changes your making. It needs those stalls to allow you to push further down the road.

I was also told, the closer you get to go, the frequency can increase, not for as long (like the 14-21 day stalls) but those final pounds are the most challenging because your body doesn't want to give up the final reserves.

Hope this helps.

Daniel

Embrace the stall. I had one at about 3 weeks. At 2 months tomorrow my weight loss seems to be speeding up even though I am eating more. My body surprised me by dropping a few more pounds this week. My surgery was only 3/9, and I am down about 40 pounds including the 7 day pre op diet.

No one can say how long your stall will last or how many stalls you will have along the journey. It's too individual a process. I just came off a 2 month stall. It was the hardest time of my life and I really needed help to get out of it. If it goes beyond 3-4wks really call your NUT and go over your diet and exercise to see if you are getting enough nutrition for your activity level. Mine probably would have broken sooner if my NUT had just suggested I bump up my nutrition.

I'm nine months out and have only had a few stalls, but these days I don't expect to drop more than a few pounds a week. As long as I'm making some/steady progress, I'm happy. One thing to consider, work on increasing your exercise if you are able to. I walked nine holes of golf yesterday with my sons and ended up losing three pounds between a Sat morning scale check and one this morning.

Good luck and enjoy the journey.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
