SuperNewbie....how long is the wait going to be approx?

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I am a super newbie here, going to my first info session at UNC on Tuesday. Have been thinking and reading about this for years, now feel very ready.

Checked w my insurer, UnitedHealthcare, and my plan covers the surgery at 90%, which is great. But I am wondering how long is the typical wait between first contact and surgery? Does United Healthcare make patients do a 6-month diet and wait before surgery? My BMI is 48, so even that won't get me below 40.

Also, I have been doing weight watchers online (fee-based), and have all my food logs and weigh in logs....would that suffice?

I am 48 years old and I am sorry I waited this long, I just want to move forward with a healthier life.

Thanks!

It can really vary depending on insurance and I don't know the UHC requirements but it is roughly generally 3 to 6 months

Only your insurance company can answer that question, because it depends on the plan you have. Insurance companies have many different plans so even though someone else with UHC may have had a 6 month supervised diet requirement does mean your plan will have that same requirement. Call your insurance company and ask for the medical policy for WLS that pertains to your specific plan. Good luck to you!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
