I am 15 days post-op, and the pain at/around my largest incision is still so painful. (I am currently crying in pain & it's 4 in the morning ). I have a high tolerance to pain, but this us awful.

I asked my surgeon about it at my first post-op visit, and he said that I have a large suture inside there that will eventually "pop" and u will begin to feel better. I can't even stand straight up most days. Pain meds don't make much difference. Anyone else have this problem?

He also told me that during surgery, my spleen was bleeding, and he had to repair/suture that to stop the bleeding. When I asked him about it, he actually acted offended /defensive. He says he did not accidentally nick my spleen. He then said " this is why I usually don't even tell pts about it, because they get all worried and upset, when it's a very common thing and nothing to worry about". I feel like he is really just blowing me off

How are you feeling now? I did have alot of pain near my big incision but in time it did go away. Maybe you should see your primary, if you're not comfortable with your surgeon. Let your primary know your concerns and they might send you for an ultrasound just to make sure everything is ok! And yea he does sound like he's blowing you off. Feel better

i don't think it's normal to have that high level of pain at 15 days post op. Your spleen is in the upper left side of abdomen - is that where your pain is? I would call your surgeon again - although he does sound like a tool! Good luck!

At 15 days out, pain that wakes you up or prevents you from sleeping isn't normal. I would go to the E.R., it does sound like you need a scan on your spleen. I would also talk to your regular doctor and ask what are the odds that your spleen was bleeding and your surgeon was NOT responsible. That's something that I think needs exploring.

Definitely follow up on your pain. I'm 1 week post op and I was back sleeping on my tummy on day 4! Couldn't get comfortable any other way to sleep. Have minimal pain / odd sensation if I attempt anything I shouldn't!! Take care of yourself and keep us posted

I too find it worrying that you are still in so much pain so far out. Is the skin red or warm to the touch? Definitely worth calling your PCP if your surgeon isn't being helpful and if you really can't take it anymore, go to the ER.

I agree go to ER Or doctor. Your surgeon made himself sound suspecious by what he said.

First off thank you everyone. I did call my surgeon today, and they said it could take 3-4 weeks for the suture inside to finally heal, and that the pain can become severe at times. I went out to a few places today, and had to hold my abdomen (it's lower left ab pain) most of the time. But I agree with you all, and I am calling my PCP tomorrow.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
