Frustrated and don't want to go up the crazy tree of doubt!

I'm frustrated today.....

Tomorrow will be 4 weeks since my sleeve and I have not lost the weight I expected.

I lost 14 pounds on the pre-surgery 2 week diet (Optifast) and weighted 233 on the day of surgery. I have only lost 15 pounds since the surgery and am feeling quiet discouraged. I am walking regularly two times per day. My meals are within limits of the diet plan. I am using Bariatastic to track all of the food and exercise intake now to make sure that I am in alignment. I am getting my Protein, fluids (except for 2 days this past week).

I am starting to have thoughts like "Is this it?" "I had the surgery and am still gonna be this size?"

When I met my NUT and surgeon a couple of weeks ago, they both said I was doing well with the weight loss.

I recently heard about the 3-4 week stall (from this site) and just don't know what else to do.

I just needed to vent and I can feel some twinges of fear and regret popping up....

I guess I am looking for some support, advice, and reassurance.

Heyyy! Well in 4 weeks, 15 lbs is a lot so congrats! Keep on trucking and the weight will continue to drop. Are u measuring urself too?

Seriously, you really need to let go of any expectations of amount of weight loss in the first month to six weeks when your body's primary goal is to heal from the insult of surgery.

Second, put away the damned scale. Follow your postop instructions. Get in your Fluid and your Protein. Avoid exercising too much at this point, remember that your body is still stressed from healing. You won't be getting in enough calories to support much in the way of exercise.

What I personally found was that my weight loss ramped up after Week 4. I lost before that, certainly, but my surgeon has me increasing calories gradually, and it wasn't until I got to 700-800 calories/day that the losses were consistent. I'll move toward solids (from softs) heading to Week 8, and from Week 8-12 she wants me to increase to 900-1200 calories/day and keep it there.

Keep doing what you're doing, except the worrying. You can dropkick that. You aren't the first person who has wondered "but what if I'm the only person out there who will fail at WLS?" You won't be. We promise.

What'd you think was gonna happen Month One post-op -- the WLS fairy godmother (who looks just like Cher, btw) was gonna show up and poof you a size 4 ballgown that would fit you perfectly?

I lost 10.4 pounds the first month post-op.

I've lost 100 pounds altogether.

I've maintained my weight loss for nearly a year and now weigh 135 pounds.

Protip: It matters not a whit whether you lose 10 pounds a month or 30 pounds a month (btw, at your low starting BMI you were NEVER going to lose 30 pounds/month). The only thing that matters is that you lose all your excess weight and eventually learn how to maintain your new, healthy weight.

I lost 17 pounds the first 6 weeks.

I have lost 100% of my excess weight and have been maintaining for close to a year now.

You're doing great. No, you're not even close to being done losing. Keep working the program and you'll see results. I promise.

Get that doubt outta your head and get to work getting your fluids and protein!

During your stay at the hospital after surgery, generally individuals gain some weight because they fill your body with fluids. So therefore before you start to show positive results, you must first loose this added weight.

After RNY gastric bypass surgery, I lost my weight quickly. But then after around 6 or 7 months I was finished and I transitioned into the "maintenance" phase. But sleeve patients are different. They lose weight at a much slower pace and they also drop weight for a longer period of time, sometimes a year and a half. So be patient and let the magic happen.

FIRST OFF EXCUSE THE LINE I DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET RID OF THIS LINE

So what to do to lose more weight I lost my weight from speed walking at orange theory every day maybe twice a day and use more calories so when I ate or I should say drink no eating for me I lost 10 to 15 lbs week for 5 months I lost a total of 80 lbs and feel awesome a year later I am maintaining my weight I am still 179 sometimes 182 but never more than that if I lose I lose in the stomach I have no hips lost my boobs but that's ok wear a push up bra as long as I am still a 10-12 in a dress or jeans I am ok do I eat I nibble on chicken or lamb chops broth Soup is good I do not go to macdonalds or any fast foods do not think about it either my sleeve is the most important thing in my life and being skinny no more people calling me fat especially men at work snickering it is a whole different world for me and I still exercise every day because if I want something I have to make sure I work it off and lose a pound or two that day

This past Wednesday made 4 weeks for me, and I too had the "OMG WHAT IF" .....post.

I really hate you are feeling so disappointed, but yet I'm a smidge relieved in knowing I'm not the only one.

Still seeing no change, Im still in a constant battle with the "it's not working" thoughts, so your post couldn't have come at a better time for me.

In all reality, I was hoping for the Cher impersonating WLS fairy godmother, so I'm glad there are all the fabulous folks on here to "guide" us all back to reality.

Granted, it would be nice to wake up and be whatever we see as a perfect size, but I'm trusting we both will get through this for however long it takes.

Uh... yeah! Where in the heck is Cher? LOL. I'm three weeks post-surgery and needed this reality check too!

I think 15lbs is good at this point, especially since you weren't super heavy to start. I think a lot of people see what others are losing and get discouraged. But, someone who starts at 350 is going to lose more quickly than someone at 230. Plus everyone is different

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
