Does it get easier to get in your fluids?

Recommended Posts

I'm one week post op and have one more week of a clear liquid diet left and then another two weeks of liquids but I can have creamier things.

Anyway, all.day.long I'm shoving broths and Water and Popsicles and disgusting clear Protein drinks in my face and I'm full and I don't want anymore! But I have to!

My surgeon scolded me for not meeting and/or exceeding the 64 oz minimum so last night I stayed up until 11 pm, tired as hell, to get the fluids in.

Please tell me it gets easier!

It does get easier. I'm sort of surprised that he scolded you so early on. I think it is rare for people to get 64 of in at only 1 week post-op. I recall about day 9 or 10 the swelling going down and it becoming a lot easier. Hang in there!

It gets much easier. I work out a lot and I'm surprised how fast and how much Water I can drink while doing that. I can gulp water now at 6 mos out just like I could before the surgery.

it does! as the swelling goes down you will notice, almost magically, that you can get more in at a time.

I'm 3 weeks out today and still struggling getting my fluids in, but it's better than the first week and better than last week. Everyone here has been so encouraging and it's helped so much. I think in terms of baby steps and each little accomplishment is one baby step closer to my goal.

@@MaeMae - Sometimes acid reflux can mimic a hunger feeling. Were you given a PPI or other acid reducer? If so, be sure to take it faithfully. If not, you might contact your surgeon to get one.

Well darn @maemae. I was hoping that would be a quick solution for your hunger! As we said above. It should start getting easier soon. Can you have Popsicles? The crunching of that helped me some and it gives u some Fluid. I also ate ice but some say not to do that. Try getting a tiny cup (like a medicine cup) and sip from it every 5 minutes for about an hour and do that several times. Literally set the timer on your phone for 5 minutes and keep sipping. It will help get those funds in until it gets easier . Hang in there!!

Yes, it gets easier. Keep working on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. You need them for healing. As you heal, the swelling will go down and it will get easier.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
