1 Day Postop - Weight Gain

Recommended Posts

Had my sleeve done yesterday, 4/4/16. Before I left my house, I weighed 234 lbs. Just got home today and I now weigh 242 lbs. Is this normal? Is it Water weight?! Kinda freaked out at the moment!

Absolutely...

You'll be pumped full of fluids as well as swollen up from the surgery...

I'd be not worrying about checking your weight for a while yet..

And also - relax....

The weight will come off...

Really it will....

Stop worrying and put away the scale. I mean it.

I came home more than nine lbs heavier than preop after a readmission where I was eating NOTHING for five days, only getting IV fluids. Do I need to tell you how fast that all reversed itself?

Your body has one job in the immeidate postop period: to heal from surgery. Period. Weight loss happens secondary to healing. That's the way it is, the way it was meant to be. Take care of yourself, follow your postop instructions, and call your surgeon if you have problems or questions.

By the way, surgery went well. First two hours were rough but I got up and got moving. It really paid off. I was doing laps by the third hour and walking every two hours. No nausea whatsoever. Also found Atkins Lift Protein drink at Wal-Mart. Water with 20g of protein!

It is very normal.. they pumped you full of Fluid, and you are (most likely) on painkillers.. Once you stop those, and your bowel gets moving again, you will start dropping.

I bet it's from the 35,000 calories they force-fed you while under anesthesia....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
