Insurance requirement for "medically supervised" weight loss program

Recommended Posts

Spoke with my insurance company yesterday (Keystone Health Plan East). I was told that I need to participate in a medically supervised weight loss program prior to being precertified, but was unable to tell me how long that would be. A few questions...... Is there a fee for that type of program? I will most likely fall below the 40 BMI if I lose any decent amount of weight (I'm great at losing in the beginning, just can't keep it going!) Will this disqualify me for surgery approval? Will be attending free seminar at Einstein next week. Hopefully favorable answers!

My surgeons office does the nutrition classes right in his office and bills it to insurance as an office visit because I am getting weighed and going over what changes I've made to my eating habits based on the last class. This all gets documented for pre-auth for insurance

My insurance required three months of supervised diet, and reported my weight from the start of my program when they filed my insurance packet.

I had my nutrition visits doubled up with my bariatrician visits. Insurance paid everything.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
