Herbalife and Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

I'm 13 months post op and I've lost 63 pounds. Due to major back and knee issues, exercise has been almost non-existent. Don't get me wrong, I love that I've lost 63 pounds but I want to lose more, a lot more. It's frustrating to see people that had surgery only a few days before or after me and they've lost 150 pounds already. During the last six months I haven't gained or lost, again, frustrating.

I'm going to physical therapy which is excruciatingly painful and I'm getting ready for my second back epidural, next week.

I'm currently unemployed and I answered an ad for a job, it turned out to be for Herbalife. I have nothing to lose by trying it and everything to gain, ha ha. Since exercise might be a little ways away I'm going to try it and see how it goes. I've only ever heard good things about Herbalife but I'd like to hear from others on this matter.

Has anybody tried Herbalife since having gastric bypass surgery? If so, please let me know what you've experienced.

Thanks all!

I haven't tried it but doesn't it have a lot of carbs? I would definitely read the labels very carefully.

Why not just go back to basics? Have you talked with your NUT lately about your goals and concerns?

I've actually heard that trying any "diet" on top of wls is a serious no no!!! It can cause serious problems. I would reconsider, do some research, and talk it over with your surgeon.

"I'm currently unemployed and I answered an ad for a job, it turned out to be for Herbalife. I have nothing to lose by trying it and everything to gain."

So was the job offer legit? Was this just a way to bring you into the door to try their product? Do you have to use their product in order to be employed by this company? Doesn't sound on the up and up.

I suspect that since you haven't lost any weight within the past six months, that you may have transitioned for the "Weight Loss" phase to the "Maintenance" phase. This article describes my experience in the "Maintenance" phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf Your back and knee pain may have precluded you from obtaining the benefits of exercise and this might account for some of the missing weight loss. This is unfortunate. There are many forms of exercise. For me walking was the simplest. But there are Aquatic exercise that is very low-impact. And other forms for even those bound in a wheel chair. I believe your physical therapist holds the key.

I know it is hard to exercise when you are hurting, but I would try swimming. If it is at all possible. With that being said, my nutritionist said that weight loss for bariatric patients us 90% diet, 10% exercise. Try going back to eating really slowly (1 bite per minute) and not drinking before or after meals and not eating at all after your dinner meal. Keep us posted.

I used to be a seller of Herbalife. It's a pyramid type of business, you buy into it while the person on top gets rich. While their product is tasty, it's a life style that isn't sustainable. Their model is 2 shakes and a meal a day. They don't teach you to eat right and push all of the Vitamins and supplements that have amazing claims. They can say anything they want since the FDA doesn't regulate supplements. Be aware, do your research..

To add.. I also used the product. I lost 30+ lbs and even won one of the weight loss challenges but I'm not made of money (lol) and I had to stop using the products. I gained all of the weight plus back when I started eating normal again. Which is where the lack of teaching people to eat right comes in to play. They push the products and hope you continue using it. If they also taught you how to eat, you wouldn't need them anymore.

Sorry if I sound so negative..but I was really hopeful that it was my answer. It sounded good and hey David Beckham wears their jersey, so it must be. I was wrong.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
