Surgery on a "smaller" patient

Recommended Posts

Hi! I had the surgery done a little over a month ago and have lost about 23 pounds, which I am very happy with. I am 5'0 and weighed 204.2 the day of my surgery. I have hit a major stall, have not lost anything for about 9 days now. I am wondering how many other people have had the surgery that only have 60-70 pounds to lose and how it went? Did you hit more stalls than others? IS this all normal?

Thanks for you help

Im still in my losing phase too. I'm 5'2", weighed 196 on surgery day. I'm 5 weeks out and to date have lost 16 lbs since surgery. I didn't lose anything for 2 weeks and now I'm losing 1lb every 2-3 days ;).

I am 5'9" and starting weight was 190. 2 months post op I lost 40 lbs. My goal is to lose 50 lbs total. I have only lost 1 lb in the last 3 weeks. This has been my first stall so far, and it bums me out. I am guessing as I am getting closer to my goal weight things are really starting to slow down.

I am 5'7" & weighed 227 day of surgery 1/25/2016. I lost 10 lbs in the first week but have not lost much since. I am considered a "smaller" patient. I feel like I am not getting enough calories in & my body is going into survival mode. Anyone else feel like that?

Yes! Oh my, I hate not being able to eat more than a couple bites before I hit that wall. liquid items (yogurt, soups) I can eat about 6 oz, but chicken or another type of Protein I can barely eat a couple pieces. It forces me to drink shakes which i'm so tired of.

I am also 5 feet tall and weighed 195 on surgery day. I have lost 39 pounds since my surgery day on October 1st. I would like to lose 21 more but will see where my body settles. Stalls will happen, I have had a few, and I am now averaging close to one pound a week but some weeks are less than that. I am thrilled with these results.

I also started at 5'0 and 204 lbs. My surgery date was 9/30/15 and I've lost 46lbs so far. The first 20 flew off then it slowed down a lot. I have been losing around 1 to 1.5 lbs per week since December. I stalled for about 3 weeks in November but ever since then it's been a steady (but slow) loss. Stalls are completely normal. They allow your body to adjust to what it's been through. Just hang in there and stick to your program and I promise you'll see an overall downward trend. Good job!

Oh yes, I am barely getting in 500 calories a day, on a good day! I feel like i have completely gone into starvation mode. I take about 3 botes of food and am competely full. I am sure that will get better with time.

I am 5'7" and also had surgery on 1/25/16. I weighed 246 the day of and weigh 226 today. The weight loss is definitely slowing, but I am getting in more calories now that I can have soft foods :D. Excited to see what happens! :)

I am 5'6 and was 200 on 6/25/15. I am now 133. I hit my goal of 140 in December. I lost about 10lbs a month. During that six months I lost 0lbs maybe 4 or 5 of the weeks. It's ok to lose slow. I know it can be frustrating, but your skin won't get saggy.

I was sleeved on 1/28. I lost 12 pounds then put 1 pound back on. I am 5 feet and weighed 206 surgery day. I am following everything my doctor told me to do. I have been getting so frustrated. I really expected the weight to come off quicker.

Yes this is totally normal. The less you have to lose the slower it goes. Pay attention to your clothes. At some point you will not lose weight on the scale but will lose inches. My starting weight was was 192 pounds. On the day of surgery I weighed in a 180. Sixteen months later I weight 145 and wear a size 6. I went down a pant size twice during a stall before the scale actually moved. Also remember you're building muscle as your body adjusts. Muscle weighs more than fat. Hope this helps!

@@dapplepie26 ... lol ....

I was also 206 on surgery day. During Month 1 pre-op I lost 10.4 pounds.

Congratulations. You're already ahead of where I was.

BTW, I now weigh 135 pounds. :)

I'm a "smaller" patient too. Surgery 1/9/16. Lost 16 lbs within the first 10 days. Have only lost 1 lb in the last month. Frustrating, but since I have mostly kept this surgery to myself (only my husband and parents know), it's nice that no one has questioned it. I would like to lose another 20 lbs, hoping once the scale starts moving again, I can average about 5-8 lbs/month and then by summer I'll be at or very near goal!

I know it's frustrating, but know you're not alone.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
