Post op in hospital question...

Recommended Posts

It just occurred to me that with my precious surgeries I have been allowed to shower 24 hours after surgery.

I NEED to shower!!! If I want to feel like a human being I need to shower the morning after surgery even if I need to cover my incisions with tegaderm, I will shower.

So, how long after surgery were you allowed to shower?

I showered on the 2nd day post-op. That's only because it took so darned long to get them to come take out my catheter & by then I didn't want to wait for the LNA to approve me to shower too. Otherwise it would have been earlier. Wasn't allowed to "wash" surgical incision sites, but showered nonetheless and washed my hair.< /p>

I don't recall there being a restriction at all. No immersion / soaking until incisions are healed and probably ly not stand there in shower with Water flooding your incisions but otherwise showering is encouraged ???? once you have the energy to stand up that is. It may exhaust you the first few times.

I showered soon after. Just keep the incision points dry, use a fresh towel and wash clothe to minimize chances of infection.

Glad Press'n Seal sticks to skin, I believe. You can cover your incisions with that while you shower.

Only restriction is swimming and bathing but I showered the next day. The incisions had a glue over them so did not worry about covering them either.

I showered the very next morning in the hospital. I just was not allowed a bath.

I showered the day after discharge. My incisions were covered by Tegaderm's right after surgery.

You aren't allowed to bathe or swim, but you're allowed to shower as soon as you are physically capable.

Thanks all!

Yeah no baths with abdominal incisions until about 6 -8 weeks out but as long as I can shower I'm happy!

I had surgery on Monday morning. No shower until Wednesday morning. My surgeon uses glue so wants it to set longer. The other surgeon in the practice does not use glue so his patient can shower right away.

I went in on a Wednesday and was released on the following Saturday. I was able to take a shower on Friday.

I had surgery on Wednesday and took a shower on Friday. I have to be honest although I was walking a lot during those days, I don't remember feeling up to a shower. I remember it felt really good on Friday when I took one, but before that I don't remember really caring, mostly I think because all I did was walk, eat, and sleep.

Haven't had the surgery yet (scheduled for 2/2/16) but in the pre-op class this past Monday, the nurse said we would are not going to be cleared to shower for at least 48 hours.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
