I wasn't able to sleep on my stomach for at least a week post op. Basically, I rotated from my back, to one side, to my back, to the other side.

Using a pillow between your legs helps. I slept in my bed when I got home after surgery but it was a little painful. Especially since I had a Water bed. Getting out of bed was extremely painful for the first few weeks.

I used a heating pad to help me the first couple days home. Miracle worker. Also, I was told that for some people the gas pains would travel up into the shoulder. Maybe that has something to do with your pain? If so, walking is the best way to get that gas out!

A wedge pillow is what made it bearable for me. It was a week or 10 days before any position besides my back was possible.

My surgery was the 19th. I still can't sleep. Also can't take any of my meds from prior which helped sleep. I never could sleep on my back. I try bed, propped up on pillows on my back. Back pain starts I roll to side slightly and from there another sleepless night is achieved

Are you currently on pain medications? What about Tylenol? Discuss with your doctor about possibly taking liquid or rapid melt Melatonin.

I had my surgery January 19th also. I didnt get to come home until Sunday due to the pain and nausea not being under control. I tried sleeping in the bed last night and it was really uncomfortable. I would wake up every so often even after having my sleeping medicine. So needless to say at 8:00 this morning i woke up in major pain and decided i would take my pain medicine and try sleeping in the recliner. I noticed a difference between the bed and recliner as soon as i sat down. The recliner hugs you like the hospital bed does. I also put a pillow on the side i was laying on as extra cushioning. My bed didnt provide enough support of my stomach and i cant sleep on my back in the bed. In the recliner i am slightly sitting up. So until the pain goes away the recliner will be my bed.

I did try to sleep propped up in the bed but it didnt help. I will also say that this surgery's pain is worse than any of the other surgeries i have had and worse than having my kids. I usually dont have to take pain meds when i get to go home. For the gas i did buy some of the GasX melt away stripes. They work instantly.

I know you don't need this anymore, but in case it helps someone else, I slept in my bed from the day I came home. I was planning on sleeping in the recliner, but after 2 nights away from my husband I wanted to at least try to sleep near him. I staggered 2 firm pillows to give my upper body a gentle incline, and I snuggled another queen pillow in front of me to support and cushion my tummy (and protect it from hubby's occasionally flailing arms). The first night I found it much more comfortable to sleep facing in (with my back to the edge of the bed) than out. The edge of my bed is much firmer and having my tummy towards it caused uncomfortable pressure, but this was moot by the second night.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
