Hello everyone, today was the day I went to get my upper GI test and the doctor said that I had a mass on the right side of my throat he took a biopsy and wants me to go see an ENT doctor so I hope everything is okay

LindaLena I'm the same way but I have 6th nutrition class in June. I'm still unsure and don't know what to do

I'm a little confused about the nutritionist visits. I have to be supervised for 6 months, currently on month #3 do you know if the norm is to see the nutritionist every month for those 6 months? And then continue after? I am waiting for my surgical office coordinator to call me back but just figured i would ask since i can't sleep and just browsing thru.

My surgeon does not require nutritionist visits every month after surgery. My insurance doesn't require it either. I was told that seeing the nutritionist often can help with progress, but going to see them is not a requirement post-op.

I will be thinking positively for you! Do you have an appointment with an ENT yet?

It's so strange to think that when I first posted on this thread, I was just getting started with the process, and now I'm at the end. Surgery is next month!

I know right???? I'm 8 days away and can hardly believe it. Good luck to you in all this pre surgery craziness!

Thank you! I *should* be done after Thursday. I have my endoscopy and ultrasound. Insurance is pending. We will see!!! I'm getting super excited and nervous now. *fingers crossed*

Since I'm a cash patient and going to Mexico, I don't have any classes or evaluations to do. I will have access to their NUT for 2 yrs after surgery as well as the doctor to answer any concerns. Even though it takes a lot of time for ppl going through their insurance, feel blessed that you don't have to pay cash and go out of the country.

I had my first appointment with the surgeon today and he is planning a Roux en Y bypass. I have an endoscopy scheduled for 5 July to check for a hiatus hernia which he is pretty sure i have, but wants to be sure so he can fix it at the same time. If all goes well I will have surgery mid July.

I have a few weeks before the endoscopy that I can fit nutritionist, psych and physician appointments into .. fingers crossed I can manage to get them all in that space of time to avoid longer waits.

I only need to do 3 weeks on VLCD but I am going to start mid June so that I won't have a hold up for the surgery if everything else is okay

I am just starting, too. After my first info session I thought I wanted sleeve, but after my info session with another program last night, I am thinking the RNY might be a better choice. The idea of dumping scares the heck out of me though.

How did you guys decide whether to go with the sleeve or RNY.

@@gina171 I decided on the sleeve - with consultation from my surgeon, nutritionist and psych (they are all in the Bariatric Program I go to). These are the reasons I decided sleeve (which I have yet to get by the way - so something may change based on my pre-op testing). I don't have issues with GERD so the sleeve is an option for me. My surgeon didn't feel like I needed the mal-absorption that the Bypass has and only need restriction (based on my eating habits and medical history). I don't really eat sweets - but if I want something sweet I don't want to get dumping. I want to be able to eventually eat normal things - only much smaller portions (once I am at goal). I can lose as much weight with the sleeve as bypass - although it may be a little slower (which is fine with me). I didn't want the vitamin deficiency and possible issues that the bypass brings. It depends on you as to what will work best - and I would talk to your Team about the choices as well.

@@MuffinzGamma Usually it's the insurance plan that requires 6 months of a supervised weight loss program. If that's the case - then yes - you need to see the Nutritionist every month (and get weighed). It's annoying - but actually it's a great time to become as prepared as possible for post-op and how you will need to eat for the rest of your life. Take advantage of the time you have - you'll be better off in the long run. I'm not sure how often my Program requires post-op nutrition visits - but I'll be taking advantage of those as well.

Hello, I am happy you want to have the surgery. I know these insurance put people through a lot. I wish you well on your journey. I am going through the same i have done all i needed. yesterday i had my upper G I done and the doctor said i had a mask on the right side of my throat he took a biopsy so i go thursday to see him and he will let me know what the test said.
