How much volume can your pouch hold?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I had gastric bypass on 12/21 and my pouch can hold about 1 Greek yoghurt or 8 oz of liquified pea Soup. Or even 2-4 oz cottage cheese. I find drinking Water is hard, but warm herbal tea is okay. I can drink 12 oz in about 20 minutes. How about you?

I had my surgery on 12/16 and I only eat 2oz at a time. Not sure if I can hold more because I haven't tried, but I also don't think I have felt "full" yet.

For me it completely depends on the food. I am 15 months out.

If I eat yogurt or soft foods like that, I can eat about a cup max.

If I eat a salad with some dense Protein I can eat about 2oz of the Protein and a cup of the salad.< /p>

If I am eating dense protein and veggies I find I am lucky to eat 2oz of protein and 1/4 to 1/2 cup of veggies.

I do however stay fuller longer on the dense protein and veggies vs. all the other stuff.

For me things like Soup and yogurt are slider foods which slip through my pouch pretty darn fast. Unless of course that soup is more like a cross between a stew and a soup and is very meaty.

Yesterday I made beef vegetable barley soup homemade and I let it become more like a stoup as Rachel Ray would call it. About 3/4 cup kept me full for hours and I could barely finish it. It had about 18 grams of protein in it so an excellent option.

I'm ten weeks out and have very similar results with food. As for Water, about the same. I don't care for any teas. I drink my water with a splash of SweetLeaf Water Drops. Made with stevia, a naturally sweet herb, it has zero calories and zero carbs. I wouldn't be able to get in my water without it. Someone suggested it on here before I had surgery and I'm so thankful they did. My favorite flavor is strawberry kiwi but there is quite a variety. I get it at the grocery store but have ordered online as well. I had this ready and waiting when I got home post surgery. Plain water has always made me go yuck. There are many alternatives to this brand, this one tasted best to me. Ice water actually would hurt when it hit my pouch (once the swelling went down and I could feel there) so I drink it slightly cool to room temperature so experiment with temperature too. Hope you can find something that will help with that!

I'm the same in regards to it depending on the food. If I'm eating cottage cheese, yogurt, eggs I can usually do 2 oz without a problem (and have to make sure I take a full 25 mins to eat so I get the "full" feeling). If its denser Proteins I get a few bites in then I feel like the food is backing up in my esophagus.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
