Natural hair and hair loss

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm having VSG surgery on January 13th. One of my big concerns is concerning Hair loss. Any Black women with natural hair who have experienced this who can offer tips or suggestions? I'm on the fence of two extremes and just doing another big chop and starting fresh or getting a weave, and seeing what I can salvage from a protective style. Any suggestions would be appreciated....

Hi, this is the second post regarding hair thinning or loss and I'd never heard of that as a potential side effect. Is it always? I'm darn near bald now, wou;d hate to lose the rest, what's the scoop? thanksp

It is a side effect. It can be a combination of not getting enough Protein and your body responding to the shock it is going thru. It does happen...

I've heard it can happen. I'm probably not the best person to comment since I I've had significant (permanent) hair loss pre-op.

I'm 8 months post op RNY and don't feel I've lost any *more* hair though. i do think its a matter of chance-- some do, some won't. I'd avoid styles that pulls on the hair (braids, weaves). Some take Biotin. Some say it works, other says is just cause Hair growth in undesirable places.

I would avoid cutting the hair again until you see if there is loss or not.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
