Below is a quote. I am absolutely amazed that someone would do what this wife did. She wanted him to fail. She may have wanted to kill him. Hopefully the guy smartens up and leaves her. She will sabatage all his weight loss efferts.

She had a failed bypass of her own. She said she "blew her pouch" but I'm not exactly sure of what that means, stretched?? Regardless, bypass wasn't working for her anymore.

Her husband told me that he really wanted a band but she insisted he get bypass (while she was getting revision from bypass to band!) because she didn't want him taking off time from work for fills.

It's probably the most extreme example of sabotage I have yet to hear.

All i can say is you are in for a wonderful experience!!! I was banded 5-24-07, i am down about 70# and that is with a broken foot, medications that cause increased hunger and now with bi lateral pnemonia. I have not been able to exercise like i should.

The band is wonderful. I already feel 100xs better. I can move and feel like moving.

The hospital is AWESOME!!! the staff is even MORE WONDERFUL than the hospital. The DOCS are the most caring, and want you to have all your questions answered and they do not treat you like you are a means to a $$ end.

I went back to MX for my fill from KS, and even got my mother that has NEVER been to MX for fear to go - well my friend i met on line here got her to try and she lived so DH and I and mom are going to Mx in Dec for fill. it is worth the travel to see Doc A and Doc C. and The "team" they are more like family they really care. They are there for the total person not just the surgery.

Take you something to do, after the 1st day you get bored. and take good shoes so you can walk, walk , walk. then get in the shower get cleaned up and go see the next set of "newbies" it is awesome. Don't forget your gas x, they sell Soup in the airports if you are flying. so that is good! I will be down there then maybe i will see you.

I read what was said about Dr. Lopez by an unhappy patient. However, i went to Obesity help and other forums and heard great things from his happy patients. I met him and his staff; Dr. Jaramillo assisted Dr. Owens on my Lap Band at Angeles Hospital. Also, I've met other post op patients of Dr. Lopez at Dr. Owens' support groups in California. Obviously they do get good follow up, since they can either go to Dr. Lopez or Dr. Owens. I'm wondering if the patients who are unhappy with any of the Mexico surgeons follow up are taking responsibility for doing their part???:ranger:

In cases like the, psych testing US docs is probably a good idea. I'm not a psych but if I were testing her I'd write RECOMMENDED; HEART TRANSPLANT BEFORE THE LAP BAND.;)

My total payment to the doctor was $7200, and then my expenses were a one night hotel fee which was around $90 and my airfare which was around $400. My over all experience was great on a scale of 1-10 it was an 11, and something that I would do again in a minute. :bounce:

Lisadogmom,

Please help me understand how anyone could "do their part" regarding Dr. Lopez. Daily calls to his office, twice daily emails, two trips to his office to speak with him. ( a 4+ hour drive + gas etc ) .....all with no reply.

Short of smoke signals, I didn't know what else to do.

Last week marked my 4 year anniversary since my Lopez debacle. Still working two jobs to pay off all the money for my revision surgery and hospitial stays to try and correct his failures.

Those who are "happy" with Lopez tend to be those who are new patients who are fortunate not to have experienced his lack of regard towards problems. YET! :faint:

Well, of course i don't know what your complication was, and I'm not a doctor. what do you mean that you "got no reply" though you drove to his office twice???? That doesn't make sense to me. What i meant by asking if a patient 'didn't do their part" was not following a post op diet, eating the wrong food which caused a slip or something.

I thought it was fairly straight forward. Daily calls and emails=no reply. 2 trips down there to see Dr. Lopez only to be told he wasn't available but I could see his assoc. ( Yes I had appointments to see DR LOPEZ)

Very proud of how diligent I was with MY part of the process.

vmills and nms waht was your total expense? how was your overall experience?

I paid $8,500 which included 2 days at hospital Angeles and one nite at a fancy hotel, plus ride from airport and return ride to airport. The reason I paid extra is because my age, asthma & high blood pressure all put me at risk and I had to have my surgury done in the hospital rather than the surgery clinic.

I am going back to TJ for my fills. All fills are free and my air tickets are cheap. I just got one for $98.00:clap2:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
