Protein powder-do you really need it?

Recommended Posts

This is more of a long term question. But I'm seeing a lot of posts about Protein powder. I know I will need to use it short term to bump up the Protein and calories, but I thought by a year out I'd be eating what I need. And not eating more than that.

Is Protein Powder a long term thing for many people?

At three months I was advised to get my Protein from real food and only use Protein Drinks if ready food is not available.

My DR believes in getting Protein from real food as much as possible so I haven't done protein supplements (bars, powders, etc) since I started real food at a few weeks out except one or two times when I just wasn't able to eat hardly during the day.

I was told the same thing. We are encouraged to get all of our protein from food. One shake a day if you need it to get in all your protein.

@@jhbeck - I add unflavored to some foods that are lacking in Protein to get my daily amounts in on some days.

The last couple of weeks I have added it to my salsa for my scrambled eggs.

I haven't had a Protein Drink in about 2 weeks. I generally drink those on the way to work. I need to get back into that habit. I am eating a Protein Bar with black coffee and although the Protein part is high so are the calories & carbs :(

Whew! Thanks everyone. I figured I might need it at the beginning but was hoping that food is the long term source.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
