I am scheduled for the VSG on November 30th and started my pre-op diet this past Monday (11/16) and I am getting extremely anxious.

I have a couple of questions for anyone who might be able to shed some light....

What did you do to curb the hunger while being on the pre-op diet? I'm only eating around 600 calories a day and I feel like I'm starving all the time!!

What do I need to pack to take with me to the hospital?

Sorry for the random post but I just want to make sure I am prepared for everything!

Thanks so much!!

-Kelley

I don't want to speak for your doctor, but I know mine isn't calling for 600 calories (I begin my liquid diet on 11.24.15). I don't have my paperwork in front of me, but I am certain it calls for ~1200 calories daily. Good luck!

I am currently on Day 12 of my Pre-Op diet and have had to stay between 500-700 calories daily. Actually, today and tomorrow I am only on Clear liquids as my surgery is on Friday. I will say that the first 3 days were the hardest and each day got a little better after that. Of course I was still hungry, but it did get better.

Good luck to you!!

Your lucky you get solids, I'm on only liquids for 10 days. I'm struggling

Well most of mine is Protein Shakes. The only "solid" foods are chili and pudding... :(

Is the purpose of your diet to shrink your liver?

I'm having such a hard time, I keep throwing up my Protein Shakes. I've noticed a lot of other pre op diets include a few ounces of lean meat in the evening.

I'm on day ten of my liquid diet, the first two were def the hardest. My doc says nothing about calories, but more about Protein between 60-70 grams of protein per day, broth, SF Jello, SF freeze pops, SF hot chocolate, healthy choice strained cream of mushroom and chicken Soups.< /p>

I've found that when I add no flavor Proteins to the soups they are good, I've also found that vanilla and chocolate protein (from unjury) with fair life skim milk is a delicious smoothie, the strawberry banana muscle milks are good, I also can have light m fit yogurt with no chunks, I change those up. I enjoy the flavored water that you can buy at any store. My choices are limited yes, but I am down 14 lbs!!

I actually feel healthy and stronger than ever ... Already!!

Good luck!!!

This is day 14 of my pre-op diet (surgery in the morning). If you can have SF Popsicles that might help. Made me think I was eating something with the biting and chewing. Also, keep busy. I had to keep my mind and hands busy so I played with different Paracord projects. And as always LOTS OF H2O.

Yeah he said it didn't matter if I lost weight it was just strictly to shrink my liver, but I'm on day three and have already lost 14 pounds.

I wish I could have things like that, but my surgeon requires nutrimed. It's prepackaged foods/ shakes that I have to eat. Good luck tomorrow!!!

All programs are different, but I was given the choice to do "3+2" or "4+1". Which translates to 3(or 4) Protein Shakes and 2 (or 1) small protein/veggie meal a day with all the low carb veggies I want during the day. I think it will be doable.

I am on day 10 on my liquid diet..surgery in the morning and i was strictly on liquids. The first 3-4 days were the hardest ... i felt like gagging on everything. (I think its mental) but after that it was easier. I tried to eat a Soup a day and my 3-4 shakes a day and definitely the sf ice pop and sf jello... i got to have a few oz of diet juice a day but that didnt help much .... and lots of water!!! Good Luck! ????

My surgery is the 30th too! I'm on a semi-restricted diet for 7 days. Protein Shake for Breakfast, and lunch, and a light dinner consisting of a Protein, and veggie. Absolutely no carbs. I noticed today that while I am not necessarily hungry (stomach not growling,) I am beginning to get a headache, which is apparently from carb withdrawal. Hang in there! We got this.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
