What's everyone eating for thanksgiving?

Recommended Posts

I'm making a dessert that looks nice and is on the lighter side and is very easy to make

you mix a box of angel food mix (the kind where you just need to add water) with a can of pie filling. My favorite is blueberry and you can find it sugar free. Bake it according to the box instructions. In a bunt pan it looks very nice

Yeah... I was told to avoid bread, especially moist bread, and sugar. But there seem to be a lot of people who will be enjoying stuffing and various Desserts. And cranberry sauce

Yes, I avoided breads and other simple carbs while I was losing. But after passing goal over a year ago, I've found the balance of moderation it takes to be able to eat anything I want and still maintain my loss. And as for cranberry sauce....yuck!

We're having the traditional Thanksgiving meal, with a few twists. No one can agree on veggies (too many picky men) so my mom is bringing a green salad. Yummo! And I've asked her to bring a fresh fruit salad. I just can't seem to get enough fruit after RNY. It tastes so fresh, and that's what I crave now. Hubby is smoking our turkey so it will be really juicy and tender.

I'll be drinking a Protein shake since I will be only 6 days Post-Op.

However, my mother-in-law was so awesome she fixed Thanksgiving for us on Halloween, so I got to enjoy it to the fullest one last time.

I've actually decided not to make stuffing this year. The reason being is I make it from scratch and my husband and kids don't like it so that's a lot of work just for me to eat very little. Plus I don't need to eat it for a week straight. I hope my MIL wont' be too disappointed. She is the only one besides me that eats it. I am planning on having turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, and then later pie.

I am at goal so I do eat pretty much everything in moderation but it's funny how picky I am now on what I am willing to make or even when I go out to eat and spend money on when I am only going to eat a little bit. Especially if it won't make good left overs.

Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Nothing. I usually lose weight over Thanksgiving the food sickens me so much. But unfortunately I am usually out foraging in vain for something to eat having starved through the meal because I don't like turkey or any of the accompaniments. I usually wind up with some beef Jerky from 7-11. Maybe I'll try to finally enjoy some Thanksgiving food this year so that that doesn't occur.

I want to make my signature side dishes and take it to my hostesses house. But since surgery or my pre surgery diet my relationship with food has changed. I could care less about the food for thanksgiving. There's no hunger nor cravings like before. Even at gatherings or dinners I'm not enticed by food. I can watch all the food shows not get hungry.

I have to force myself to eat. It has been five weeks since surgery. I don't know if this is going to be a permanent thing or will it change down the road.

I will be eating at my sister's house and she has already asked me what I can have.

I plan to eat turkey and a bit of my favorites (stuffing, green bean casserole), and maybe a sliver of pumpkin pie.

OK, now this bothers me for some reason. Why is your sister asking what you can eat? Especially as you say you will be eating turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole and dessert....like EVERYONE else from coast to coast.

Sorry....rant over.

I don't think it was meant in a negative way. She probably meant it in a way to make sure she offered foods that her sister can eat. I took it as more of being a gracious host rather than insulting.

I guess that is part of being overweight for so long, we sometimes misinterpret other people's intentions due to some people fat shaming us.

She asked because she is considerate and doesn't really know much about what I can/cannot or will/won't eat. She is planning for a house full of people and cares.

This is my last holiday season before surgery in 2016. I'm not going overboard because I don't want to gain any weight or the program I am in will drop me, and I start all over in this looong process. I am having lots of turkey (protein), and a wee bit of mashed taters, veggies, and I made stuffing (whole wheat bread, low fat low sodium chicken broth to cook the onions and celery in), sugar free cranberry sauce and sugar free pumpkin filling just for me and I froze it. The rest of the family gets the tradional recipe stuff. Happy Thanksgiving to all, and to all a good nap afterward! LOL :P

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
