Ok so I am 7 days sleeved as of tomorrow (Nicember17th). This is my 8 year anniversary with my best friend/hubby. On another note... I. Am. Starving! No it's not head hunger. No it's not acid reflux. I am truly starving! I have little problem drinking a cup of broth. I get my Protein Shakes down no problem. I drink my Water. I don't know if it's because I'm on liquids only and they just go through my sleeve? Is anyone else hungry? Also my main incision is still hurting really bad. After a shower I want to cry. I had my first cry-free shower today. But the site is super sore. Just curious if anyone is having similar issues?

Hi Doggirl79,,

i will be 7days post-op tomorrow, and yes my main incision still hurts if I bend the wrong way or lay the wrong way, or laugh to hard, or cough to hard... as long as I take my pain pills it dulls it, but when I forget..whooooo does it hurt.. I have not taken a shower yet, just using the the ol'washup routine.. I can touch my incisions without pain but underneath the main one hurts..

now on hunger, do you have hunger pains (cramps) or are you thinking your hungry with no physical alert.. I noticed that in the morning when I first get up, my stomach goes bonkers (cramping, growling) I have a small fridge in the bedroom with Protein Shake pre-made and I sip that.. after about 4-8 sips my tummy is happy and I can begin my day. I also like sipping warm team if i forget to pre-make my shake for the morning.

I do have eye hunger, where I see something and want to nibble, but i hold back, I am seeing double digits losses of weight right now each day, I don't want to change that..

I have only had broth one time since post-op it did not sit well, but thank god for those nausea pills. thus so far I have only used nectar Protein Powder and crystal light.

Keep your head up and happy anniversary

~MojoCAMI

My hunger is physical. I do have really bad eye hunger but throughout the day I'm definitely physically hungry. I love broth! I guess it's the salt that makes me feel like I'm having an actual meal LOL I drink 2-3 Protein shakes plus Fairlife skim milk. I'm getting about 80 grams of protein in. I'm losing on average 1.4 pounds a day. For me, that's great! I read on my approved food but I could have creamy Soups and sugar-free pudding so I made some high-protein sugar-free pudding last Night I'm going to get some fat free cream soups and add some unflavored protein to those as well maybe this will help curb my hunger I also have been walking on my treadmill to alleviate some of the pain Thank you for your experience!

you are most welcome,

i have been contemplating trying fairlife milk, I use cashewmilk in my chocolate and vanilla protein shakes. The nectar protein shakes I just use water so no issue there.

I don't recall being cleared for soups after the first week, but I am going call my NUT and ask :) I like creamy soups and I am happy its working well. I also forget about sugar free pudding, I make plenty of sugar free Jello though.

thanks for sharing as well.

My NUT told us SF pudding and creamy soups (no food or chunks and can add water to thin it). But every NUT is different. To be safe I woukd ask to make sure. I think I Mai have a sleeve of steel! Before surgery I could eat nails and be ok. Good luck to you! Keep me updated on your progress.

No worries I meet with my NUT tomorrow i can ask then, for now its protein shakes and water, no biggie.. :)

I am new here and scheduled for my VSG on Thanksgiving! Nothing says let's Celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving like leaving friends and family, leaving the USA, and getting your stomach mostly removed! I am going to Dr. Kelly in TJ. I had a hard time deciding to do this, but now that I am almost there, I just want to get it done! Against my better judgment, I told my mom yesterday (although I didn't mention it will be done in Mexico) and it was a mistake. She is convinced I will die or be miserable with complications for the rest of my life. She is upset it is not reversible. Why would I want my weight loss reversible? Anyway, I am staying strong despite her protests! Good luck to all!

I am already to go! Surgeon had been back, anesthesiology, gotten my meds. Let me know how your goes. I will write as soon as possible. Surgery should begin at 12:30 ET

Oh did I feel to mention that I m super scared.

Things will go well, i was a touch scared myself to be honest, but it was mostly about the pain part post op... Just be ready to walk when the nursing staff says so, be ready to pee like no tomorrow for the first few times :) and when they give you your first Protein Shake, don't be afraid to ask for a different flavor.. the first one they gave me did not sit well.. pain ohh the pain..

other than that, good luck and I will look forward to your first post, post procedure :)

It's 24 hours post op. I did not do well when I came out of anesthesia. I had a lot of pain, blood pressure shot yo and I had tachycardia.

I had the test down for leaks and I had none. Had couple bites Jello and a couple spoonfuls of broth, and I have bee able to hold it down.

Pea523- I hope you feel better. I didn't do well with the anesthesia either. You will start to feel better especially day 4. I'm on day 6 post op and feel much better than the first 3 days. Good luck and hang in there!

Pea523 first couple of days are a little rough with soreness and trying to keep from getting tied up in a knot with everything attached to you. I'm one week out today and I'm doing great. Just take it easy and you'll be feeling better very soon. Good luck.

Hi 24601,

Sorry you had such a bad reaction from your mother. That is hard to not have support from someone you love and who loves you. I didn't tell my parents for that reason as I felt they would be unsupportive and question my decision. Hopefully your mom comes around before your surgery or shortly there after.

Stay strong and let me know how your experience goes with Dr Kelly. I have heard great things about him and have a friend who is thinking of getting VSG and she is thinking of Dr. Kelly.

All the best!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
