4 weeks post-op, almost 1/2 way to goal

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 8/17. Initially I had a rough time with nausea and dry heaving and was readmitted to the hospital for an additional 4 days. Since then things have been going well. I weighed myself this morning and I was 230.2lbs. I am .2lbs away from a 65lb loss and halfway to my weigh loss goal. I lost 39lbs pre-surgery and in 4 weeks I've lost 26lbs.

I am so grateful for this surgery and for my wonderful surgical team. The support I have received from my team, my family and friends who know I've had surgery, and from the people here has been amazing. Thanks!

Are you able to get in all of the Proteins? I can't get it in! Starting today I'm going to keep a daily journal. I'm hoping that will help me find my down times and will concentrate on getting more. I think I'm doing OK with Water. Congratulations on your success. I'm so happy I had this surgery also. Excited to see where I will be at the end of the year. My husband and I are celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary next weekend and he told me we are going on a cruise the day after Christmas.

Thanks Kate :)

ExcitedNana - yes I am able to get in all my Protein - NOW. The first few weeks were rough. I have to supplement with a Protein shake though, or else I wouldn't be able to do it. I am doing ok with Water but still having a rough go at getting all my Vitamins and supplements in. I'm ok with the two chewable Multivitamins, but remembering the other 3 doses of Calcium and making sure I schedule them out 2 hours after the Multivitamin is a real drag. So far I haven't made it one day getting in the two Multivitamins and 3 Calcium. So far the best I've done is the 2 Multivitamin and 2 calcium. I'm hoping to do better this week. I think once I'm able to SWALLOW the pills, it will be easier. The chewable vitamins and calcium are just downright sweet and they are tough to get down.

@@Margie122 I too was readmitted to the hospital after vomiting and dry heaving, etc. My problem was a bowel obstruction. Why were you readmitted?

I'm happy to say that I am alive and well. This only happens to 2% of patients. I just happen to be one of them. I had my original surgery on 8-19-15 and was readmitted for emergency surgery on 8-24-15 and stayed 3 days in the hospital. I haven't had any problems with eating or drinking. I have been hungry all the time and am ready for some REAL food.< /p>

Whitney1968 - I was readmitted for the nausea and dry heaving because my surgeon was concerned I might pop a staple and get a leak. The dry heaving just would NOT STOP. I ended up in the hospital again for another 3 night/4 day stay. It took two full days to get the nausea under control and for me to be able to eat anything. It took another day for the dry heaving to stop. I'm sorry you had a bowel obstruction, that sounds awful  . I hope you are on the mend now!

I am on real food now. My taste buds changed after surgery and the Protein shakes were so stinking sweet...they were hard to drink. They are a little easier now, but still sweet. I think once you get on real food you will be amazed at how little it takes to make you feel full. Good luck!

So far my tastebuds haven't changed like everyone else says they do.

I hope you are right about feeling full on real food. Can't wait.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
