Should gallbladder be removed during surgery?

Recommended Posts

Someone told me to have my gallbladder removed during the sleeve surgery. They said it will go bad in a few years after my surgery. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? I am going to ask my doctor at my next appt. but it's not until Sept. 23rd so thought I would see if anyone on here has heard of this.

The person that told me had the lap band about 3 years ago and apparently her gallbladder had to be taken out a few years after the surgery.

I don't think that is necessarily true. About 25% of patients get gall stones and may have to get their gall bladder removed. Pretty much you could wait it out, as it may not affect you at all. This was one of my biggest concerns. My Dr. told me to watch what I eat after surgery because fatty, oily foods causes gall stones. I'm 5 weeks out so far so good.

My doctor put me on a medication to prevent gallstones for the first 6 months after surgery. They are HUGE capsules, but I'm taking them as ordered.

Yeah me too I was given those pills too I'm almost done thank god I asked about this when I had my sleeve done my surgeon said he can't take it out unless it's diseased already that they aren't legally allowed to remove organs that are healthy I don't know if this is technically true but it makes sense I guess?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
