Does your stomach grow back?

You're going to gain the weight back plus some!

I know a few people that are bigger now than before they started.

It just never ends!

"Well, have you tried just diet and excerise?"

Like every other overweight person on the planet, only about 100 times......

"Well that wasn't a good decision now was it. You shouldn't have done it"

Seriously!? I already had the surgery, cant change it now!

"that's not fair, you cheated" and "Who was your surgeon? Would you recommend him? I really need to lose 10 lbs" (said in perfect seriousness by someone who is maybe a size 2 at her most bloat-y time of the month).

'you should just try to eat less and exercise more. Anything else doesn't work'

Or

' I don't believe you did that! That's so extreme! You're going to regret it!'

"But you're so young! You could have just exercised and ate less..." Yes because I should have waited another 10, 20, 30 years of unhappiness and hating life until I decided to make a change... of course! Exercise and eat less, well holy hell there's a new concept I NEVER tried before!

"You're going to gain ALL your weight back because I know 1 person who did!"

Lol I love this post, and I can honestly say I've asked some of these dumb questions myself before I made the decision to do it. I think it's somewhat normal, but doesn't change the fact that it's a pain in the ass to respond to these questions. I still haven't told many people that I'm doing this, so I'm a little nervous just thinking about how I will handle all these questions.

"I know someone who just died after having it done just a year ago" (turns out after she lost all her weight she only drank beer and smoked cigarettes and ate very little and it was junk. She poisoned and starved herself).

"My mothers housekeepers daughter is very ill and they don't expect her to make it after her surgery." (Was more than a year down the road and her illness wasn't related to the surgery at all).

Here's some of the dumb questions you get pre-op...

- now, you do know that this is not a magic procedure, it's just a tool, and it will require a lifestyle change (duh, cutting 80% of my stomach is a major freaking change ????)

- what made you choose the sleeve? Someone I know that had it gained all their weight back. You should do the bypass (as if it's impossible to gain weight back with the bypass ????)

- I would only do this if it were my last resort (being fat your whole life and wanting to experience a normal life with no health issues before it's almost over, in my opinion, is the last resort)

People are so judgmental of things that are unfamiliar to them. When I talk to people who are well informed about the surgery, they usually congratulate me for the decision and tell me I will have no regrets as long as I follow my doctors orders/diet.

A bit off topic but so far, my least favorite question post-op is "do u feel better?". I know they mean well and although I was 326 pounds, I felt and functioned just fine so 70 pounds down I kind of feel the same. I mean getting up off the floor is a little easier but otherwise I sort of feel the same....

Oh how about " you can't eat that!"

I just literally spazzed out on my husband because I asked him to pick up some pudding at the grocery store. I get so agitated when people who have not been sleeved , nor have met with any nutritionist, nor any doctors- try to tell me what I can eat or can't eat! I'm the one who just had 85% of my stomach removed! Do you honestly think I'm going to eat any-damn-thing that is going to hurt me or impede my success??? Just shut up already!

* I think this was more of a vent than anything.*

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
