I'm 6 days out & I have regretted it everyday. I'm always hungry & if I eat I eat sick. I stay thirsty but if I drink more than 1 sip every 30 seconds I get sick then to.& It hurt to go to the bathroom. I've only been eating Soup like I was told to but if I eat till I'm full I'm sick so I just stay hungry. If anyone has any tips or something helpful to say I would appreciate it.????

here goes:

1- you just had major surgery

2- you had most of your stomach removed

3- the nerves have been cut so you cannot depend on a full feeling

4- you should be measuring your foods and don't ingest more than you are allowed

5- the healing process affects how much you can consume and it WILL get better

6- hunger can be in your head

7- hunger can be thirst

8- refer to your plan and hang in there

You can do this, the beginning is tough cos you are also recovering from surgery but you can do this!! You will be glad you did!

Are you taking an acid blocker? How about something for nausea? If not, call your surgeon and ask for them.

Have you tried sugar free ice pops? They helped me get my fluids in. Have you tried drinking other things besides Water? Different temperature Water? Bottled water? Decaf tea? Vitamin Water Zero or G2?

I could not get plain water down for months. I mixed Apple juice with water. It had sugar from the juice but I got my fluids in.

You may be dehydrated by now if you are not drinking. Please call your surgeon for advice to get your fluids in. If you have headaches, fatigue, dizziness, dark urine go to the ER for IV fluids. Dehydration is no joke.

Good luck....baby steps.

Try some of the ideas mentioned. I'm only 4 days post op but boy was I hungry and then I was able to take the anti acid and now I'm fine, you'll be ok I guess it just takes time to get used to it. Talk to your doctor. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.

Sipping every 30 seconds may be too much. Use a medicine cup (or other one ounce cup) and set a timer for 5 minutes and sip 1/3rd of the cup every 5 minutes. That only gets you 4 ounces in an hour but within a couple of days you will be able to drink more so up it to 1/2 the cup every 5 minutes or drink it every 4 minutes, etc. Do this for a while and you will catch up. It is the only way I was able to get in enough fluids in the beginning. That will ease up pretty soon - by day 8 or so I could drink 8 oz per hour and then by 2 or 3 weeks I could do 12 oz per hour.

I'm 15 days out and honestly the first week was the worst but it gets better! SF popsicles were a life saver.

How much are you taking in at one time? I was told to sip a medicine cup of liquid over a 15 minute period. It took forever and it seemed like I was sipping all day, but it's important to get the fluids, Did your doctor put you on any liquid antacids?

Sounds really weird but today I tried pickle popsicles & they settled my stomach, heartburn, cramp, basically everything. Something else I found I can eat is pergreso Soup. Just blend it. They have a lot of different kind but I found I like the chicken Alfredo & chicken pot pie. They are wonderful ☺️

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
