Today is Surgery Day - 07/29/2015

Recommended Posts

Thanks guys! Feeling better. Everyday is improvement. Only 4:30am but just so much time you can stay in bed without going stir crazy, so went walking. Hope my doctor gets here no later than 9 am and releases me, so I can detach myself from IV, drain, and pain pump.

It was tough, but absolutely no regrets. Ready to start my new healthy life! ????

The Candidate,

Congratulations on your decision and on your surgery! It’s been a long journey for you already, and you have been wonderfully positive about it. Thanks for sharing this stage of your journey with us in such great detail – it can be very helpful and inspirational to pre-op and post-op members alike!

I’m glad to hear things are going more smoothly for you. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Thank you @@Alex Brecher! Positivity was a upfront choice going in, and it made the long wait so much easier!

I'm home now, and feeling so good, I almost can't believe I've even had the bypass done! And I feel no hunger. None. Today is Saturday and I've consumed no solid food since Tuesday. I'm able to get Water, Protein shakes, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth in ounce cups with no problem. I also can get Popsicles down with ease. I walk like there's no tomorrow.

Since they removed the drain (which didn't hurt a smidge), the pain I had on the left side under my ribs is gone. It no longer hurts to breathe deeply, and I've finally passed gas. If I overdo the walking I can get a stabbing pain in my upper abdomen, that eases when I stop the exertion, but that's it.

I'd do the long wait and surgery over again in a second. Not one iota of a regret! Best decision ever!

????

@@The Candidate

Sorry if you mentioned it before and I didn't catch it, but have how much have you lost so far? Or do you know yet?

You are such a great example of how staying positive can help so much in recovery, by the way :)

Thank you @@ssflbelle!

What is National Coloring Book Day? I'm curious.

This is the first ever National Coloring Day- A group of adults get together to color in adult coloring books. It is the latest stress reducer for adults.

I took markers and a couple of coloring books to the hospital with me. But along with my iPad they went unused. Too many interruptions, walking, sipping, vitals, unplugging and plugging yourself back in with the IV pole.

But I plan to get in some serious coloring while I recover. I'm well stocked as I stopped by Michael's before surgery. ????

I totally agree it's a great stress reliever!

@@The Candidate - Get a caliper and tape measure for measuring body fat on Amazon. The cheap plastic ones will be ok. You will initially lose many pounds, and then you will stall. If you catch the exercise bug as many of us have, you will start building lean muscle mass and you may stall again. But you will be less likely to lose your motivation when you look at your measurements and see the loss of body fat. I'm glad I did both, lose skin sometimes makes the tape measure tests less effective. I figured that out about three months post surgery, you will be utterly amazed at where you will be around New Year if you figure out your body fat now and then. Glad you are home and all is going well.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
