Insurance only cover some types WLS?

Recommended Posts

My BCBS of CT pulls up 'price estimators for Band and Bypass but nothing's under Verticle Sleeve or any other names I could think to search it. I will call to confirm its covered tomorrow because that's the surgery option I've researched and found fits me best.

BUT I'm now freaking out that maybe my insurance only covers some types of surgery and not Sleeve. Is that something anyone has ever seen happen?

My surgeon apt is in 2 weeks but I'm gin research mode now.

I've only ever seen 2 insurance companies that cover only some procedures, Tricare and Medicare (in some states they say no sleeve after age 64). The CPT code for a sleeve is 43775. That may help you get some more info from your insurance company.

i have united health care ,and even though they cover the lap band my employer/options chooses to not cover it, because they consider it "temporary" so i think it depends on the employer sometimes.

they did cover my sleeve surgery and my inpatient stay upwards of 37 thousand, so i cant complain!

but then i work for the hospital system...

good luck!

I have Kaiser SoCal and they cover the RnY and the sleeve, they no longer perform the lapband procedure.

I have Anthem BCBS too and when I pull up the price cost estimator it comes up that only the band and bypass are approved, however they do cover the sleeve too. For some reason it's just not listed. It's the same price as bypass would be under their calculator I was told over the phone.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
