6 months waived at 49.3 BMI?

Recommended Posts

So I have been reading on here a lot lately and read that with my insurance, if you have a BMI of 50 or more that they would waive the 6 month doctor supervised visits. My current BMI is 49.3! Not that I want to weigh anymore than I already do but is there a chance they will go ahead and waive it, or do the insurance companies stick to exactly 50 or more? I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan by the way. Thank you!

I personally know 2 people that purposely gained weight to get up to BMI. Can't say I blamed them, 6 months seems long to weight. I did not have a 6 month or 1 year supervised diet.

I've heard people say they put weights in their pockets and wore heavy shoes.

Just sayin' ????

Judyoz- I'm not actually from Michigan I'm from Texas but my company is based in Muskegon and Holland, MI :) Dr. Chad Carlton is doing my surgery, I am very early in the process right now. I had my consultation just a week ago, waiting to hear back from insurance on my requirements!

Debbie- yeah I know someone who wore ankle weights, not something I am interested in.

Probably not a great idea to be discussing insurance fraud here in the forums :)

Insurance fraud is a serious crime, you can go to jail for that. So. I'd say don't do it. That being said, everyone says the 6 months diet is the worst and too long, but to be honest this surgery is a complete mindfuck. I'm EXTREMELY glad that I had that 6 month diet to get my mind right and REALLY make sure I was ready. Was a blessing in disguise for me.

They wave it at that BMI because you are considered to be an immediate risk. You have to think about the situation you're putting your self in and how serious your co morbidities are if you gain more weight.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
