AM I CRAZY FOR WANTING TO TRAVEL TO MEXICO FOR THE GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY?

Recommended Posts

My family think I am insane to want to travel to another country for surgery. They try to scare me with all kind of stories like I don't no how to use the internet and Google the latest news in Mexico, duh!! I am well aware!

If it wasn't so expensive in the united states. I'm self pay so having it here is not an option. My family does nothing for me so their opinion does not matter. If they want to pay for me to have it in the states then I'll listen........... Ha ha ha ha haaaaa!! I can't hear you!! My sister is so negative! She could use this surgery herself! Girl bye!!

I just returned from Mexico today. Honestly, I would do it all over again but wish someone would have told me the raw truth about it. I would recommend doing as much research as possible. The doctors and nurses at Mi Doctor Hospital were not as attentive as they should be. It's a scary place to go but I look forward to my sleeved life. Do not use Mexico bariatric center. Have it done through dr Ortiz at a lighter me.

People do it everyday. If my insurance hadn't come through I would be going that route as well. Good luck!

although I researched Mexico. I decided against it. I was self-pay in NYC. My insurance covered the pre-op testing because it is basically consultations with different specialties and I paid the surgeon and anesthesiologist. I felt more comfortable being in the united states in case of complications and I have someone to sue and hold responsible if anything goes wrong. I know a lot of people that that went to Mexico and was very successful. But, I like the idea of calling and going to fix it my doctor as often as I like/need. Developing a face to face relationship was important to me.

I think if you are going to self pay, ANYWHERE, your concerns should be more than the cost of the surgery. I am booked for my sleeve in Mexico on the 29th. The wait list in my province for bariatric surgery is 3 years long.

As for the surgeon you go with, spend a lot of time researching. Consciously LOOK for good and bad reports about any one surgeon. This is a life changing opportunity, just do your best to make sure that it's changing your life for the better (a poor surgeon can make it worse).

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
