@@Babbs Yeah it's not cheap. I will go to a surgeon in my city first for a consultation to see what they say. My husband says he will get it done. I only want to get the things done I know I can't fix with exercise like boobs. They don't look horrible but they are def smaller! I had to get smaller cup size. I still have 30 more lbs to lose so it won't be today but I'm already looking. I deserve it! ;)

I viewed my excess skin akin to my 3x sweatpants. .. don't need that sh*t anymore! I do think it helps with motivation in maintenance too.. my sleeve was Dec 2011 so I am definitely finding maintaining an increasing challenge as many do once they are 3 or 4 years out...

@@CowgirlJane Lol! That's how I view mine now! I worked hard to lose this 90 and once I get the rest off I want to be put back together so to speak. I've never wanted to be a rail I like womanly curves so as I'm losing them I'm keeping motivated by planing on new!

That's an interesting way to look at it. I'm like 48 and married, so I kind of think "Why bother?" But you bring up some good points!

I just turned 51... so had all thus in my late 40s... so worth it.

However I think you need to accept your flawed body pre plastics or you may never be happy with plastics either. I interviewed several plastics patients and was shocked at people with great results who still wanted better. Kind of like massive weight loss...be sure to wrap your head around this, get over your dismorphia etc first.

I'm about to go into the insurance and finance section to post the costs associated with my WLS surgery, plus the insurance costs (once I'm sure all of the bills have come in) -- so I think it's completely fine to ask questions about any costs (for any surgery).

I know where you are coming from though - I remember asking someone how much their house cost as a little kid and receiving a pretty quick correction from my mom. :-) I wouldn't do anything like that now (house/car).

Ok - back to my Babybel cheese and deli chicken. I've been at it for 2 hours!

Seems like part of the purpose of this site if you ask me...

I know someone who actually worked for me that had lost over 100 lbs. Her insurance paid for her Tummy Tuck because she had "skin touching skin" fold over which puts you at risk for infections. Doctor had to take some pics and send them in but they agreed. That was around 2004. She had her arms done at the same time and paid out of pocket a significantly lower amount since the other cost were cover by ins.

Hi

I don't think it's rude to ask. Asking is a good way to get a ballpark figure. Asking can also helps one spend their dollars wisely.

As a side note, I am very jittery about going to MX or any country (although these places have very reputable, qualified, and excellent med professionals) for any surgery but that's just me....I am very jittery about medical procedures of all kinds regardless of who is doing it so if/when I consider any plastic surgery not covered by my ins. I am asking around.

The other thing about me is I need to tour the facility and talk to not just the surgeon but the anesthesiologist, etc., before I let anyone put me to sleep and cut me. So by asking about prices you could parlay that into even more pertinent info.

Just some food for thought. ????

I've been doing a lot of research on realself.com - I've found some pretty decent doctors there, and there are usually pricing along with the patient's reviews. There are a lot of people on there discussing how much pain they've been in or not in depending on who they went to and what was done. I'm just getting prepared for after I get my sleeve done - I go on the 21st to find out more information and how soon I can expect it to be done. On plasticsurgery.com they have some really interesting 3D animations on how the surgeries are preformed.

@ I guess I'm just going to have to suck it up and sign up for that website! It won't let you see all the pictures unless your a member. Good luck on your journey through sleeve land! It's wonderful!

@@tomi71 I would have to do so SERIOUS research before I do anything. The Mexico place wants you to send in a picture of your boobs, problem areas. I'm not sending any body part pictures right now. I wonder what they do with all those?! I may have to play the "if you show me yours I'll show you mine" game so I have some evidence to show if I see my boobs on the internet some day!!! ;)

I too was terrified of plastics and of leaving the country... and of any surgery. I was all scheduled for sugery in May of 2013... but delayed it to October of that year as i was having a full on freak out! In the end I felt better about my decision for having waited. i still fainted right before surgery and did not get a discount on anesthesia! All I can say is I received great care and happy with my results. Remember i went the route of one surgery, covering alot... versus spreading over 2-3 surgeries. Plastics, just like life, is full of trade offs.

As far as sending pictures for consults... I didn't think my before pix were all that valuable on the porn market..unless there is some weird middle age, small boob, saggy skin fetish out there - haha! and... never have your face in the pix. I also only sent them to a very few well known reputable plastic surgeons so I haven't worried about it at all.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
