I was banded by Dr. Cywes in Jacksonville on May 5, 2005 and had lost my goal of 100lbs by the one year anniversary date. Great doctor, wonderful staff and I have recommended 12 more that have been banded by him since and all have done great except one and that is because she cheats. Would recomend Dr. Cywes to anyone and would be assured they will be happy in the end.Over two years out and still maintaining, what a life change this was to the better.

Hello All,

I too am in the Jacksonville area and I had my surgery last Friday (Sept 7th). My surgery was done at Memorial Hospital by Dr. Webb.

For the most part the surgery went okay (had a reaction to the morphine). I had my post-op appt today with Dr.Webb and have lost 6 lbs so far.

I am not feeling 100% yet but I guess that is to be expected. Still swollen in the abdomen area and experiencing some kind of hiccups, gasps of air after I drink or eat. But again, I am assuming that will pass as well. My next milestone - the 1st fill in 5 weeks!

Hi JaxFab,

When I decided I wanted the band, I researched all the various physicians in our area that did the lapband surgery. Then, I went to all of their seminars. I went with Dr. Herrera as he seemed to genuinely care about his patients. He has continued to prove this to me time and time again. He is so wonderful and caring when it comes to his patients. His staff are awesome too. And, if you ever have a problem, he is always available to you. One thing that also set him apart from everyone is when I was doing my pre-op with him we discussed issues like being over-filled or getting stuck. He said if I were ever in a situation where I am stuck and in severe pain, no matter where I was, if need be either he or his partner, Dr. Chappano, would come to me. He said they understand the pain and know that if you are stuck, you need release fast, but may be in too much pain to travel. Fortunately, that has never happened to me, but it is reassuring to know if it did and I couldn't make it to him, he would come to me.

Hey Susan! I talked to you a year or two ago! I'm finally getting my band! It should be in March. I am just finishing up my 6 month Cigna requirement with Dr. Cywes. I didn't want to be a self pay since if there were any problems I would be in debt for life! Anyway, I decided since the company I worked for was closing, that in my job hunt I would make it a requirement that the job I took had to have insurance that included LapBand surgery. Well, Citibank's insurance covers it *but again you have to go thru 6 months of physician supervised weight loss first*. I've lost about 15 pounds since October which is when I really started to follow the under 30 carbs a day regimine and added 10-20 minutes of walking per day.

I just wanted to say hello!

~Kim

Has anyone here used Dr Baptista? I went to his seminar last night and was very pleased with everything I heard. He seems nice. I would appreciate any input on him.

Someone else here mentioned that she attended several seminars to get to meet different doctors and I think that is excellent advice. So thank you. I will be looking into that.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
