I have fedaral bcbs standard, my bmi is currently at 35, with comorbidities of sleep apnea, hypertension and high cholersterol. My first appointment is Feb. 19th. My question is, within the past two years my bmi has fallen to less than 35, will I still be able to get approved for gastric sleeve surgery?

For my plan on BCBS FEP, they only needed one weight from each year. So if you have weights that are still at 35 or above then you should be just fine. Your coordinator will help walk you through it too. :) My weight fell below the BMI threshold with no co-morbidities (40 BMI) in previous years but I only sent my coordinator weights that were over 40 BMI - does that make sense? I got the print outs from the doctor's office and then scanned the selected ones and sent to my bariatric coordinator.

I had the same questions as you because my weight went below a BMI of 35 in 2013 (because I had just gotten the lapband taken out). I'm finishing up my 3 month pre-op process this week, and hope to have everything submitted to BCBS Fed next week. I'll let you know how it goes. I am hopeful, because as RNYDawn mentioned, as long as I have a high BMI recorded in 2014, 2015, and 2016 I should be good......hopefully ;). Even though the recorded weights aren't 2 full years (24 months) apart because 2016 just started.

Hey ladies! Ugh! So turns out My coordinator thought I just needed 3 months of NUT appointment when in fact it's 90 days! My 90 days will be on Feb 18 so now I have to wait until then to resubmit! On the bright side once the received my paperwork they replied in 3 business days... They didn't deny it, it was just cancelled... I'm in vacation right now and won't be back home till next week so hopefully that makes the time go fast! :) thank you ladies for your support! :)

Enjoy your vacation!! The time will fly by. It's crazy how 90 days is different than 3 months. lol

My 90 days is up next week, so hopefully submitting then. We should be pretty close in surgery dates :). I'll let you know when I hear anything. Please do the same.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
