I have seen my doctor twice now, met with a nutritionist, a psychiatrist, sent and received several emails with my doctor's nurse and coordinator and no one has brought up a pre-op diet. Is this not a universal thing with surgeons? I'm worried that I've missed something now!

Thanks,

Janna

I did not have a pre op diet. They asked me to lose 10-15 lbs before surgery (I lost 9) and 1 day of liquids the day before surgery. That was it :)

Oh and my insurance said i had to be in their program 90 days before i could have the surgery so appointments were scheduled 1 month a part for 3 months then i could set a surgery date. The appointments included diet and exercise info as well as a visit with the surgeon.

This is different among surgeons. I had to do two week liquid diet due to my BMI... I dropped 26 quick pounds so I was pretty excited. A lot of people didn't have to do any pre op dieting at all. I'd just recommend going withe your surgeon's instructions. It sure is a blessing to not have to do the two weeks liquid!

The purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver for surgery. Everyone doesn't have to do the diet. Just follow the surgeon's instructions and all will be good.

My sister and I both used Kaiser. She did not have to do the pre op diet, just the 2 days of liquids. I am doing the pre op diet 3 weeks out! Maybe it depends on the surgeon.

Only a three day clear liquid diet for me. Started it today, surgery is on Thursday.

I went thru all my appointments and waited for the insurance approval. When I found out about it and set the date, that's when they told me of my 2 week liquid diet.< /p>

I only had a one day, full liquid diet prior to surgery. Everything went well and I'm 7 weeks post-op tomorrow!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
