Had surgery today

Recommended Posts

Surgery at 7am, came out of surgery at 8:30. Doc said everything went well. Pain was primarily gas I believe. I refused pain killer about and hour ago at 4pm. I have slept most of the day but got up and used the bathroom and walked down the hall earlier. I have already 12 oz of Water and a sugar free Popsicle. Sitting up in the recliner watching TV in my room about to use bathroom and walk again. Pain was earlier but already subsiding, gas pain way worse than the soreness . I feel fortunate I would be happy to share my experience or answer questions!

I haven't had mine done, since I have one more Dr. appt and all other requirements. Then my paperwork will be sent for approval. Can't wait!! I hope it goes as well as yours has.

Great! How would you compare with band surgery?

A little more gas than I had with band , but less soreness. Its way easier to get around, in and out of chair and bed. I just used the bathroom and walked for about 5 minutes.

I had my Lapland removal, hernia repair and vsg all completed on 7/2. Honestly.. The pain was almost as intense as child birth. I can say that the majority of the pain came from the CO2 that was pumped into my chest cavity for surgery.

I am now 3 days out and still in quite a bit of pain. 6-7 on a scale of 1-10.

The intensity of the pain has blindsided me. After having the Lapland put in on 11/2011, I expected this surgery to be similar. Oh.. I was so wrong.

After discussing the pain with my surgeon the day after, he explained that Lapland to sleeve patients definitely have a little bit more of a recovery time. He said I had moderated to severe scar tissue and that is also contributing to the pain.

All I can do is take it day by day.

It's not like this for everyone. The things that helped me the most with the gas pain, WALKING, WALKING and WALKING and deep breathing exercises.

I wish you all luck! I'm excited now that the pain is becoming more manageable and to start focusing on my nutrition and results. :-)

I had my sleeve yesterday and feel great! I had my band removed, hernia repaired and I feel very little pain. The only issue I had was I couldn't urinate after the surgery. We kept waiting - they sent me home with a catheter that I had removed today. Also, I gained 7 lbs since yesterday. A little discouraging but it must be due to all the fluids they gave.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
