@@shizwiz I'm on day 12 a Premier Protein has been by far my favorite. I don't know where you live but I got mine at SAMs and they were 18.97 for a 12 pack. I bought chocolate, strawberry n cream, and vanilla. They have 1 g sugar, 160 cal and 30 g of Protein. Also Swanson make a hot n sour broth, Mexican, Thai ginger, ect....they are good too if you want to change it up a bit, I mix they with some plain chicken broth to lighten them up.

As of March 2015, it will be 12 years that I have been working in the bariatric field in Tijuana. Any doctor that has done in excess of 2000 surgeries claiming zero complications? IMPOSSIBLE! ..just saying

Hey OCCers!! I'm so out of the loop and hope everyone is doing well. I've been super busy back to working two jobs (I have to support my shopping addiction- I can't stop buying clothes) and trying to be there for my dad. I'm going to catch up on everything I've missed on the thread hopefully soon. My surgiversary came and went, and I made it to goal ????????????????????????. I also have a couple trips this months I'm so looking forward to. And for those who know me and my story- I did it! I was Poison Ivy for Halloween. My costume arrived in dramatic fashion the day of but I pulled it off! I'm so thankful for Batman and Robin!!

Hey barb, great to hear from you! You look fabulous and glad you are doing well. I went nuts shopping when I went home for a visit a month ago...even had to borrow an extra suitcase for the trip back. But I've been trying to restrain myself since then

Well I'm a few days from my one year surgiversary. I have been maintaining goal for 4 or 5 months. My question now is, I need a boob job. Where is the place to go in Mexico for that? I know OCC has plastics now, but I don't know how long they have been doing it. I currently have implants, with one being noticeably larger than the other and after losing 82 lbs this last year, they are not sitting high enough. They need revamped. Suggestions on good surgeons in Mexico? Possibly Dallas or Austin even.

Check out the plastics subforum on here. Cowgirljane used a surgeon she highly recommends.

Can anyone tell me if Dr. Ortiz sews over his staples like I've heard so many other doctor's do?

Hi all. I just realized that Mexico was a serious option. Two questions...

I have a BMI of 33 - would I qualify?

If there are any complications, would my insurance company cover the complications?

Thanks!

This is the best hospital and surgeons. Five star treatment! Would go back in a heartbeat and recommend OCC to anyone.

Most of the posts say:

$1-2 for bag handlers/waitstaff-roomservice

$5-10 for housekeeping staff

$10-15 for drivers

Not sure what everyone else is doing but this was about the norm for most.

I'll be there November 10... :)

I'm scheduled for Friday, Nov 14th. Only 9 days away now!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
