Having a hard day today and feeling like a failure

Recommended Posts

You are absolutely allowed to feel like a horrible mess of a failure for 3.......2.......1...... and STOP.

It's completely normal to have a bad day, in my opinion. The fact that you recognized it and have the desire to fix it is what's key here.

Cookies and brownies may give you a temporary "energy" surge but that will be followed by a sugar crash and next day hunger. Instead, reach for a bottle of Water and go for a quick walk. Fresh air and a cool drink will get your blood moving and clear your head to make better choices.

As for your doctor's goals? Tell him to suck it. You are doing AMAZING. Seventy pounds in 70 months is great. Keep up the great work and don't give up on yourself. You are totally worth more than that.

No more pity parties. Trust me, they won't help and it will only waste a few precious moments towards your new self.

And they say your mean @@LipstickLady lol

Thank you all for the encouragment, reality check... and kick in the butt ( @@LipstickLady ) ;) lol. I really do hate to fall into the pity party mode. I'm generally a very positive person but this week things just hit HARD. I'm very happy I have a place to go where people know how I feel and give me reminders.

Your all right, the time line my dr gave me isn't fair. He doesn't have the best of bedside manner. For example, when I asked him what size my Bougie was, he scoffed at me and acted like I was an idiot. He was also upset at me when I'd only lost 50 lbs when I saw him at 5 mths post op. I think that last one is why I'm so upset with my current loss. I see him next week and i really dread seeing his disapointment.

I AM very proud of my loss so far. If I don't lose another pound (which I'm too stubborn to let happen) then it would have been worth it. I really believe this saved my life.

awww Snow there is no point in setting time schedules. I had to give up on that. The body is gonna do what it's gonna do and thats it. I had my sleeve done Dec 30th, 2013. I weighed 249 at my highest then it took me over a year to lose the 27 lbs before surgery. On the day of surgery I weighed 222 lbs. That was 15 months ago. I kept saying i'm gonna lose 100 lbs in a year!!! But I lost 80 and that's ok. I didn't follow ALL the rules ALL the time the way some people can. I'm ok with that. I haven't gone on any crazy binges and I rarely eat fast food, Cookies, sweets, chips, etc... But occasionally I want a treat and I'll have something. The key is that I track it all. If I gave into a small ice cream cone from McDonalds then it's going on my fitness pal. You will get there and know that you can have a treat sometimes just track it in with your calories for the day.You can do it. If I can, I promise anyone can.

next time you start feeling down and wanting to go grab the Cookies...go in the bedroom, grab something you saved from the closet from when you were 70 lbs heavier and put it on. Take a good look in the mirror and be proud of what you have accomplished. Those Cookies won't look as good anymore.

I am having a really hard day today. Head hunger and old bad habits have reared their ugly head. I have an almost uncontrollable urge to eat carbs to increase energy (candy, chips, brownies, etc…). I have resisted the urge but it’s hard. Im SO tired and depressed. Im in my 7th month (8th as of the 25th and my next dr follow up) and im “behind schedule”. He wants me to have lost 117 lbs by my 1 year mark and at 7/8 months I’ve only lost 70. It doesn’t help that I haven’t lost anything in over 10 days… in fact ive gained a lb. Most likely due to my period but still depressing. What if i'm done losing and this is it?! I also keep seeing all these people who started out near my weight who have lost 100+ lbs in 4-6 months!!! Its making me feel like a failure and like I got the wrong surgery. Sorry for the negativity, I just really needed to vent to people who would understand. Thanks

I feel the same way, have been stuck for several months now. Had salmonella poisoning end of January and the only thing I could tolerate for a couple weeks was carbs. Opened up Pandora's box for me and I'm having a hard time getting back on track. Seeing everyone's advice was the kick in the rear I needed. I can see how easy it would be to gain it all back and that scares the hell out of me.

@@XXShelXX that's a brilliant idea... I often look at my before pictures but I never thought about putting on my other clothes. I'll try that :)

@@crazzeescrapper I had a very similar issue! I had a stomach flu for 2 weeks. The throwing up really messed with my stomach so I had horrible esophageal spasms and gastritis. I ended up only able to eat carbs too. But boy those are called sliders for a reason! Goes down easy and the calories add up!

@ snowkitten

Thanks for starting this thread- this has been a tough week for me and I am so encouraged by all the responses I have read. I was working at a conference and was given a complimentary hotel room and club lounge access from Sunday to Wednesday. I can honestly say I didn't go crazy but I did eat more than normal and we all know that restaurant food is not known for it's healthy properties!

The scale has stayed the same but I feel the drain. Also, I went to the gym this morning and felt the pain (literally)!

So, thanks again, everyone!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
