Sensitive Subject-birth control pill after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I have a question: My doctor seems adamant that I use two different forms of birth control now that I'm sleeved. I've been taking the pill for years (hubby will get a vasectomy sometime in the near future.) Is there something about bariatric surgery that makes the pill ineffective?

Was anyone else told this? Of course, I do not want any babies I'm just wondering......

Thanks,

K

I did some research about this topic as well. It has to do with the absorption of the medication and it's effectiveness.

I just talked to my surgeon about this at my 3 month pre op appt 2 weeks ago. He said that when women lose a lot of weight they become extremely fertile. And that even if you take it everyday as prescribed some women still get pregnant on the pill. Even though it's 99.9% effective.

Yes, my doctor said that the pill is not as effective after the sleeve surgery. They suggested that I get an IUD instead.

See no one told me this-I was under the impression it had to do with gastric bypass & the sleeve was different.. But I don't want to take chances as I'm on meds that can cause birth defects. I'm going to call my obgyn. I wanted an iud anyways-so heh.. I was super fertile even very overweight-it didn't matter.. But had many complications I attribute partially due to obesity.

The absorption of BC is affected. IUD is best---I have Mirena IUD and haven't had a period in a year!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
