I saw Dr. Eric Hungness with Northwestern hospital. So very impressed with the level of care. Dr. Hungness conducted the seminar I went to back in August. I was impressed and felt good about choosing this doctor and facility.

I had my sleeve surgery on 3/4/2015. Just hit my 1 week post op. Had a hard time with fluids in hospital and they kept me an extra day. Have been able to get all of my Water and the low side of my Protein (60g appox) in, and a few days really struggling with that. I am on so many pills and Vitamins my new stomach feels like it is always full of liquid and almost achy. Really hoping i start feeling better soon, after working so hard to get to this point, i want to be excited about this life change

Hi everyone! My surgery was 3/10. First two days were hell! Way harder then my 3 c/sections. I was not expecting all the gas pain in the tummy as well as the nauseous feeling. Dry heaving has made my stomach really sore. Walking does help. Right now I have to get my liquids in. Still feels weird to drink.... Like I have to burp all the time. I've asked myself a few times what the heck have I gotten myself into. :( I should be able to go home tonight which I think will help because then I can get the stomach drain and iv out.

Getting ready to go home from the hospital. Had my surgery 3 days ago on Monday. Felt great the first day. I walked laps of the floor. But day 2 the pain really kicked in. Super hard getting in and out of bed and adjusting to sitting up. I was pretty miserable. The pain was more of a burning sensation. Wondering of you're felt the same. On day 1 we also learned that my bladder was not going to cooperate so after draining it with a catheter twice they put in a Foley. I was not happy. And there was talk of sending me home with that in. I protested and somewhat unrelated had a mini meltdown of tears over pain and exhaustion when my IV went on beeping for well over an hour in the middle of the night because the call button wasn't working. Other than that, has anyone had that surreal recognition that we now have only about 15% of our stomach left? I don't suppose it fully hits until you experience the restriction of the new stomach. But I'm a bit in awe that after all the prep leading up to this that it is now done. Still excited and nervous.

Definitely have burning and tightness on the left side. Not sure how long that will last, but I hope you get better soon!

I had my surgery 3/5. I am down 9 lbs. I feel like a million bucks. I got a 2 for 1 the portion of stomach which was removed had thickening from crohn's disease which caused chronic n&v, diarrhea, and terrible pain. I haven't had any n&v, diarrhea, or stabbimg stomach pains since surgery. Thank you Lord!

Enjoying reading all these. Mine is a week from today so I'm definitely feeling nervous and anxious (and really hoping that I don't have more than 1 night in hospital since I'm self pay!...maybe since I'm early 30s it will be okay - at least that's what I tell myself).

Excited to be on the losers bench soon!!!!!

Hi everyone. I was sleeved 3/2 and doing pretty good. Still a little sore where the incisions are but getting in Water and Protein. When I left the hospital I had gained 11 pounds. I know it was probably all the Fluid they pumped into me. Now 11 days post op I'm only down 3 pounds from my weight the day of the surgery. How are the rest of you doing ?

I was sleeved on 1st March. I was in hospital for 4 days because of a bleed at my staple line that they wanted to keep an eye on. The first (nearly)two weeks have been emotionally very very hard - but I'm feeling good now. I wasn't prepared for some of the lows though - at one point I genuinely worried that I was swapping obesity for depression - I just felt a sort of numb sadness. But that's largely gone away as I found things to get excited about and get involved in.

I still have pain in one of my incisions (the largest one) which makes it painful to bend or move quickly. It also means I can't sleep on my side - or cuddle or be intimate with my other half yet. I've not needed pain meds much and am just dealing with the incision discomfort without (most of the time its fine).

I'm getting most - not all - of my Water in OK. I'm not getting much Protein in yet, because there aren't many protein-rich sources that I like in liquid or puree stage.

Having my surgery Monday the 16th at 5:30 am. Getting a little more nervous by the day since the biggest thing I've ever had done was my wisdom teeth out. I hope everything goes as planned. I will keep everyone posted.

Livingstone sorry to hear it been a rough few weeks. Each day does get better. Walking helped me with the pain. I've been making my own broth and found a Protein Powder that's really good. It's from bariatric eating..inspire whey isolate powder. They have caramel latte, dutch chocolate cake, Peanut Butter cookie, peanut butter cup are just a few. They mix really smooth. Good luck

Checking in - 11 days out. Still on thin liquids (Water, broth, and premier protein) and trying to get everything in. I'm losing weight based on clothes but no clue how much because I don't own a scale.

I have what feels like stomach cramps when I lay down at night. The cramp kinda starts and then rolls and then subsides. I wonder if it's a stomach spasm?

I could have started apple sauce and thicker liquids and yogurts as of Monday, but I declined. I don't think I'm ready. I'm a bit afraid of that because I don't want to starve to death (dramatic much?!) but I don't know how long my stomach will be feeling kinda skiddish.

I have no appetite what so ever and never feel hungry. This is such a massive change. Like I think about food but I'm not interested in eating. I don't know if that changes but food is definitely changing from a source of pleasure to a chore of trying to get the right Vitamins and Protein in. I wonder if this is how slimmer people always see food? Right now I feel like once I get on foods, I would be fine with eating the same thing everyday because eating just doesn't seem like a source of pleasure anymore. That shift was so fast - it all changed in a day.

I have a follow up appointment on Tuesday where I will get a weight and mention this stomach spasm thing.

Other than that, first week back at work is coming to a close. Saved a ton of money on not eating breakfast/lunch. May buy some concert tickets or something with my savings! Goooo Friday!! :)

I had my surgery on March 9, came home Wed afternoon and have had a lot emotional ups and downs! I only had some nausea the first day and the morning of the second day. My pain has been getting better and I have not had to use the narcotic pain pills that I was prescribed, except for the first night. I have only been needing to use some acetaminophen every now and then. I am really starting to tire of the Protein Shakes and am trying my darnedest to get my min of 60g of Protein in, which I have been successful with. It's just a weird (and a bit scary) sensation to not feel hunger pains or cravings like I used to. I am anxious to get on some somewhat solid foods like very loose scrambled eggs or cottage cheese. But that won't happen for another week to two weeks. I too have found myself feeling emotional and even second guessing this surgery at times, even though I have already lost seven pounds since my surgery. I know it will get better, it's just hard for me to focus on that right now.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
