Any April Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Hello!!!!! Im New here and my surgery is April 17th! :) but I am a little nervous .. but Excited all at the same time... :D

Yay! That's so exciting. And don't be nervous, you'll pull through it like a champ! You would think I would have been nervous, but somehow i wasn't because I was just so happy to be getting it and everyone I dealt with kept my mind at ease. The whole experience has been rather pleasant, to be honest. The pre-anesthetic was great. They gave me midazolam and induced with propofol. So I was comfy, relaxed, and then I was out like a light. It wasn't the least bit scary. So go into it thinking it's going to be a really nice experience and you'll see how much better that makes it. You'll do great!!!! Let us know how it goes!

So I am scheduled for surgery on the 14th and had an appointment yesterday with the anesthesiologist (never heard anyone else mentioned this before) anyhow just saw a missed call from the surgeon's office that they need to talk to me about something I discussed with the anesthesiologist now I am nervous not sure what the hell that means I dont remember telling him anything that the doctor isnt already aware of. Anyone out there with any ideas or suggestions? Just so I can stop freaking out I can't speak to the doctor until Monday.

Any word from the doctor??

Husband has emergency out of town trip day before surgery. I had to ask my elderly parents to meet me at the surgery center Thursday morning to drive me home. So stressed out & upset. Last day of work tomorrow before surgery, 14 hr shift

Awwww, I'm so sorry! How stressful. I know, having to work the night before stinks. I got off at 10pm last night. The good thing is that you'll have the best sleep ever the next morning. No matter how old we (or they) get, we still need our parents sometimes. I'm sure they are happy to drive you. There is a lot to look forward to. Don't let this get you down, ok?

Jessica I'm so sorry that you had a rough go at it please keep us posted and let us know how your recovery is doing.

I had my surgery on the 10th and my first 24 hours I had a lot of pain I'm not going to lie at the gas pain was horrible but it was short-lived for me. The second day was much easier and now I am at about 3 1/2 days and feeling really good just a little tender around that abdomen but back to my usual grocery shopping and cooking and cleaning routines. I feel really good. But I am struggling with head hunger and I'm already getting tired of just having a liquids would love to be able to have some thick Soup or some applesauce or some peas or mashed potatoes. But I know I just have to stay the course and things will get easier I'm glad I have this forum and all of the experience people on here to ask questions when I get stuck or I'm struggling with something. Any April's slevers feel free to add me as a friend and keep me posted on your progress and recovery

Thanks for the encouragement. One way or the other, it will be over in two days.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
