Unsupportive Primary Care Doctor

Recommended Posts

My doctor was so anti bypass, he said he had seen so many complications including 2 deaths. He was all about the Sleeve, saying they have been doing longer than the sleeve (for cancer patients)and no serious complications in patients that he has. He personally had the lap band and said he would never endorse that now over the sleeve!

So very sorry you are not getting support from your PCP. My experience has been the opposite. My PCP knows I've been considering WLS for years. I went through a WLS program and was at the point of scheduling the lap band surgery four years ago, but chickened out. I've gained a lot of weight in the last year after going on a new prescription. At my recent physical, we talked through my fears and I told her I was considering WLS again -- the gastric sleeve, which wasn't covered by my insurance four years ago. As I was leaving, I told her I'd let her know if I needed a referral for the bariatric center. She said, "Oh, I already sent it in while we were talking. I want you to have this surgery. It will change your life for the better."

My PCP is also unsupportive , she feels weight issues are due to compulsive over eating and the surgery won't solve anything. She feels I will just change one obsession for another like alcoholism or some other horrible obsession and told me to see a dietitian. I joke with friends that I've "dieted" myself into obesity, but it's absolutely true! If diets worked I wouldn't be in this situation! I'm going forward without her blessing and will find the support I need elsewhere!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
