I'm feeling a bit scared now...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I had my sleeve done in August last year and have been plagued by problems since. 4 weeks after surgery i had persistent vomiting for 2 weeks and ended up in hospital for 4 months and almost died twice. I had developed a hole in the upper part of my stomach and its contents had leaked into my chest wall cavity and around my organs causing my lung to collapse and develope pneumonia, sepsis and due to me being on lithium at the time, diabetes insipidus meaning my kidneys stopped working. I got transferred to a specialist hospital where i had operation after operation and a drain in my chest wall. I got out of hospital Christmas eve with a collection that might never go on my chest, months worth of antibiotics and an nj tube down my nose to give me Fluid as i couldn't have more that 100mls an hour. I have been going well since then and my last scan a week and a half ago showed the leak is healed over half way through my stomach wall which means nothing is leaking out. But that brings me to now. For the past 24hrs i have been getting what for lack of a better way to describe it feels like soft contractions in my stomach. I thought they might be hunger pains but i still get them after eating or drinking. I am also getting a lot of integestion (burping) and sometimes the pain goes through to my back??? I'm petrified to call my surgeon or even see the gp. Has anyone else experienced this?

After having complications ever since surgery why would you be afraid to have things checked out? Better to be diagnosed by a physician than in a chat forum by strangers. You're health is so important. Take the time to call you're doctor.

You absolutely call your surgeon! After what you went through, you want to be sure that everything truly is fine. I'm so sorry for what you had to go through.

I agree with above. Hopefully it's nothing too bad, but of course - if it is, don't you want to get the care you need as soon as possible to address it? You've come so far, now continue to take care of yourself and get the help you need to fully heal. I wish you the best.

@@missymac I am sorry you have had so many complications. Please CALL your doctor. I cannot imagine that anyone would want to even think about giving you advice as you have had such a hard time and are still recovering. I know I wouldn't want to offer bad advice that might set you back. Hope everything turns out alright!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
