Hello Everyone!

Just starting my Lap Band Journey and was thrilled to find lapbandtalk.com! I am a 35 years old and have been overweight and on the yo-yo weight loss/gain ride all of my life. I'm still in the preliminary stages of the Lap Band process(I will be attending the seminar on June 21) and just wanted to get as much information as possible before I make the final plunge. Kind of hesitant and excited and a bit disappointed in myself for not being able to control my weight without taking such a drastic measure.

Glad to be a part of the group!

Hi Davies,

I suffered with left shoulder tip pain for 3 weeks after the operation. I'm not sure if that's the kind of wind problem you are referring to. I found it was worse if I was sitting in the car driving for some reason. I even found a few times on longer trips I would have to stop and get out and walk around. I phoned my doctor's clinic and they told me to take pain medication if I needed too and it would eventially settle down. It's very common as the air they pump into your stomach during the operation is later trapped when they close you up again. Some people get it, some don't. I find I burp a lot as well, but thankfully the kind I can hide lol

Hope this has helped you in some way.

Cheers,

Hi, I know that I'm not able to lose weight and keep it off... so I'm hoping this is a good plan for me. I just got banded last week. Just so you know, everyone makes it sound like it's a simple thing... it's not. They say there is no pain... and that's a little bit exaggerated. There is gas pain. (The incisions don't hurt much though). Make sure you take off at least a week of work. You most likely won't be able to eat for two weeks before surgery. (You should know that before, I didn't) You won't be able to lift more than 5 pounds for 2 weeks after surgery. You can't take advil.

I know I still would have chosen this path if I had known... but, it would have helped in the planning. Good luck!

Hi, I am from GA (Augusta) also. I can relate to your feelings. I have experienced them too. I started the whole process, knowing it takes time, figuring I will make a decision when I have to. However, reading the board, researching the procedure, talking with the dr, psychologist, nutritionalist (who has a band), etc has convinced me this is what I need to be successful with weight loss. It is not a miracle cure but a tool. You still have to work at it, you just CAN be successful. Welcome.

sunny:)

It is $10,000 cheaper in Al than in GA... I am sooo excited... I am sick of eating junk

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
