How do you deal with mucus from a cold?

Recommended Posts

I got banded in August and have been very successful. 53 pounds at last fill but since then what started as a virus proceeded to a pretty bad head cold with ton of mucus and post nasal drip. Hw do you deal with it? I haven't been able to hold a ton down until the mucus starts pushing back. Tried mucin ex and it seemed to make it worse. I am sure it will pass and am just looking for suggestions for the mean time. I am on a pretty strong antibiotic so sure it will be cleared up soon. Any help would be appreciated! Love my band and the life it has given me so far. I know this is jump a pump in the road. Thanks!

years ago reports seem accurate, that many people suffered increased 'mucus' from ingestion of dairy products...especially 'milk'

and today the 'not milk' fanatics list dozens of know bioactive additives in milk products, that do bother some folks.....

There are a variety of herbal teas I've long used for the astringent qualities..."cold tea" "gypsy throat tea" etc etc

Your local health food store may well have a qualified nutritional consultant available (NOT just a 'sales person') who can give you some tips.

Start reading widely on the subject, there are a jillion sources that offer good advise.

I get this stubborn mucus as well mucinex does not help me. It's like the mucus just won't leave. I have done some alternative medicine during these times like acupuncture or foot massage. It helps every time. Those darn post nasal drips can go on for weeks for me and I hack and hack. Good luck. You also may try a Neti pot or hot Water with peppermint oil and out a towel over your head.

@@Deedee13 you are right about the mucinex. This will only make your issues worse. You want something to "dry" it up. See your Dr. and and ask for a nasal spray. Additionally go to the pharmacy and try getting a saline nasal spray this will help to clear and dry up the sinus and prevent some of the post nasal drip.

I am a horrible allergy sufferer and I have post nasal drip more often then not, and these things are definitely a big help especially during cold and flu season. You want the area to be clear and not create a breeding ground for bacteria and viral infections which is what post nasal drip does. Because the area is moist most of the time it creates a breeding ground and we can get sick more often. It also doesn't help our tummy or our stoma when it's clogged up with nasty stuff.

Mucinex is great if your impacted sinus or chest congestion but if things are moving try something more to dry it up then to make it more productive now.

I also find a cup of warm tea will help to clear the mucus from the stoma and make eating more palatable and smoother as well, and tea is a natural antioxidant that will also help to boost your immune system.

Feel better!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
