Ahhh, pre-surgery jitters!

Recommended Posts

Mine is February 4th. I have UPMC insurance through my husband's work, although they tripled our deductible this year. My surgery is being done at a UPMC hospital in Pittsburgh and we live in Pittsburgh. So no travel, it's just eight miles away.

Sometimes I just find myself thinking, "What the heck are you doing?"

Then I remind myself of all of the reasons that I need to do this.

I am feeling the same way. It seems like it is coming to fast! Seems like just meet my surgeon (Dec 9th). My surgery is Jan 28 and the closer I get the more I have cravings and worry will I be able to do the liquid pre-op diet. It's a mixture of excitement and being nervous. I have never had surgery before. I gave my self two weeks to slowly give up the things on the surgeon's list of things not to have. And he told me not to gain anything before surgery. I have weighed myself since meeting him and I was down 2 more pounds. But as of today I am even scared to weigh myself. I don't think I have gained but its another thing that I am probably wasting my time worrying about it. I have been trying to find things to do to take my mind off of this. I have been doing laundry and cleaning the house thinking those are things I will not be able to do. and......well you know that saying "if you want something done right, then do it your self."

I am wishing every one good luck and a wonderful recovery.

Dee, I am right there with you. It is hard to get through this time. I have seen it over and over as those on my Facebook bariatric groups get so stressed out before the surgery.

We just have to take it meal by meal, day by day. Exercising (swimming) helps me. It breaks up my day and gives me a good focus.

I have decided to make myself go down into my (dark, dank, cold) basement and do some painting because that always makes me feel better and I have a lot of new canvas that family gave me for Christmas.

I do some of my best paintings when I am under stress.

Ladies I completely understand. I truly had to keep myself busy during the two week liquid diet. I painted several rooms, cleaned carpets, changed bedrooms, organized cabinets, and anything else to keep me from focusing on eating. I lost a total of 15lbs during this time and I have to be honest there were a few days that I didn't succeed and managed to eat a small salad. I didn't go nuts, but I couldn't resist the need to eat something. (i know, bad me)

Surgery was on Monday and went well. I'm extremely tired from the anesthesia, and morphine prescribed, but I'm slowly but surely coming around. Having gas was the worse part of surgery and learning not to swallow more than I should is a new experience. Other than that, I'm looking forward to this new lifestyle. I'm on high Protein diet now to help with healing, and I"m hoping that goes well also.

@Ready_For_Me_13 Congrats on your surgery. Happy to hear you are doing well. Thats awesome in regards to your pre-op diet. I am going to take it one meal at a time line @@Jana64 says. My nutrionist said the same thing oe meal at a time.

@@Jana64, I just bought a new puzzle that's what I do to clear my head. I know that sitting for long periods will not be so good after surgery so I am going to pick up some books for post op recovery. Post a picture of one of your paintings would love to see one.

Thank you ladies for sharing with me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
