eleven weeks post op need help eating

So I am eleven weeks post surgical, and have lost 107 pounds to this point. Weight loss has slowed due to the fact that I have been taking prednisone for a gout attack i had for four weeks. Nutritionist said that drug will severely hamper weight loss and bring it to a near halt. I saw her last week and she informed me that I need to be getting close to 2000 calories a day in... it is 4:58 right now and I still have 1000 calories to go. Anyone have any suggestions?? I am trying to eat, but quite honestly I am full a lot of the time. I am very active and work out five days a week, and the reason for the need to get so many calories I am told is so I'm not wearing eating my muscle away. I am an avid weightlifter and take 3 to 4 hours a week of spinning classes... But it is much harder that I thought to eat enough... Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm kind of frustrated that the prednisone is slowing my weight loss. Hoping now that I'm off of it, I will resume losing... I only have about another 50-75 pounds to go...

That's quite a bit of weight loss in a short time.

Nuts, avocado, dates. Salmon, can you do that? Its a fatty fish.

That is a lot I'm 11 weeks out and 45 pounds down. I struggle with eating because nothing sounds good and I can only eat 2 bites of anything. I do find Soups are the easiest for me to eat along with Protein Shakes. Congrats on all the weight loss.

I don't think you should be at 2000 cal a day. I am 21 weeks post op and I am at 800 per day as requested by my Dr. A normal stomach would be at 2000. Talk to your Dr. The last thing you want is to gain the weight back. Just keeping thinking Protein and you will be fine. Good luck on your journey!

If you're working out that much, I can see where you'd need the calories. If you don't get enough of them your body will go into starvation mode and quit burning anything. I'd suggest things like swimbikerun suggested. Good fats that have calories to burn. Stay away from saturated fats and carbs, they burn slower, also you should probably add a couple of extra Protein shakes in to keep your energy levels up. Good luck - Once the steroid treatment is completed you should be back on track.

Actually right after surgery, I went into "starvation mode" and my body burned everything. I did win the Olympic swim championship and made sure the top guy knew that women aren't 2nd class citizens. :)

In or out of the pool.

Eventually my own organs started getting eaten. So ... after a 5 day chez hospital stay and 5-6 weeks on TPN, I would sort of disagree that your body will quit burning everything. Mine sure burned everything including the kitchen sink. :)

If it is strictly calories, they would need more of a gel for runners. If it is Protein also, that's another story. I add Protein in my drinks now. I don't think it is bleeding doing any good with all the other weird stuff I've got going on, but I'm giving it a shot.

Does the person who put you on the 2000 calories a day really understand the restrictions of your new tummy? That is a lot of calories to take in for a sleeve. Maybe that physician is not well versed in Bariatrics. I would recommend an appointment with your Bariatric Nutritionist for sound advice.

2000 calories. That is impossible considering you are still considerably new to your sleeve. I am almost 2 years out and I don't eat anywhere near 2000 calories. I hope this was not your surgeon telling you to consume 2000 calories

yes the person who put me on that diet is well versed in surgery. It is my bariatric nutritionist. I am an athlete, and have a large amount of muscle mass. She is worried that if I'm not eating enough that I will start to use my muscle for energy. I have already lost a SIGNIFICANT amount in that month after surgery where I was not allowed to weight train, and even before that. She said 1500-2000. Based on my BMR I am still creating a deficit calorie wise, about a 1000 calories. which is about 2 pounds a week. I've lost a lot of weight fast, but was on prednisone, which all but stops weight loss... hoping during this time my body catches up to all the weight I have lost as far as skin stuff... trying to see the positive...

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
