5 Days Post Op- Stomach Growling Like Hunger/Dr did not put me on PPI

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 12/12. My stomach feels like it is growling all the time even after I have consumed liquids, broths, Jello, etc. I am having a hard time figuring out if I am hungry (which is what it feels like) or if its just a feeling I need to get used to. My doctor did not put me on a proton pump inhibitor. Wondering why after reading some other threads and wondering if I should start myself on one to see if it helps.

Could be acid.. that's what mine "hunger pang" feeling was early on. I had to stay on my PPI for about 4 months before the feeling finally went away. Now my hunger indicator is completely different.. it's not a pang type of feeling at all. You can ask your surgeon or your PCP about it and they might prescribe one for you to try, or you can try something over the counter if you want. A prescription dose will be about 3x stronger than what is recommended OTC though.

My stomach did the same thing the first few weeks. I called it "rumbles" because I could feel and hear it like a storm brewing. I'm sure now that it was acid. I also was not put on a PPI and it wasn't until 6+ weeks out that I started to have heart burn and reflux. Call your doctor and ask for a Rx or go to CVS and pick some up OTC.

Yeah my stomach rumbles and growls too. And I think at least I hope I am mistaking this for hunger pains. I am on RX ppi Nexium , and Reglan. I had real bad acid reflux before and still do. We just have to tough it out.

I started taking Prilosec OTC and it has helped a lot. Thanks for your replies.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
